Most of this movement happens through the graduation of seniors and the arrival of freshmen, but every year, some players decide to move from one school to another, heavily impacting the equation.
These are six players from the Houston area that have moved teams ahead of the 2023 season:
Fort Bend Kempner’s main scorer last season, Ochelli has decided to head to TAPPS powerhouse Fort Bend Christian Academy and will add a lot of firepower to an already strong side, which last season came up just one victory short of securing the state title. Ochelli came up as a middle, but played outside hitter in the last high school season and right side at club, meaning she will be ready to contribute wherever her new team needs her. A very physical player, Ochelli has tallied 437 kills in two seasons with Kempner. She’s also a solid blocker, having produced 27 stuffs as a sophomore.

After three seasons setting for Klein Collins, where she amassed 1,933 assists, Blaine has joined a strong Concordia Lutheran team in Tomball. Her arrival couldn’t have happened at a better time for the Crusaders as they just graduated setter Kody Harman and really needed a new playmaker to lead the team. The fact that she already has great chemistry with the team’s main offensive player, outside hitter Rylee Henderson Rylee Henderson 5’11” | RS Concordia Lutheran | 2024 TX , from years of club at Texas Legacy, makes of her an even better fit. Besides being an excellent setter, Blaine can also contribute offensively, having tallied 169 kills in her last two seasons with Klein Collins.

One player Blaine won’t get to play with at Concordia Lutheran is Muoneke, who after an incredibly strong freshman season departed to Cy-Fair. The athletic outside hitter was excellent too during the last club season and is a player with the potential to change her new team’s status in the division. Muoneke is a scoring machine, having scored over 550 points as a freshman, and will immediately become the Bobcats’ focal point on offense. Her potential is sky-high and Cy-Fair are lucky to have the ability to help develop it over the next three seasons.
Vastly considered one of the best middles in the entire state in her age group, Collins left Shadow Creek to play for Episcopal in her final two years of high school. An incredibly athletic and consistent player, she was massive for Shadow Creek in her two seasons with them, amassing 690 kills and 77 blocks – she played as an outside hitter in her sophomore year. Collins’ move has perfect timing for the Knights since Ava Harrington, and Farah Farooq, the team’s starters last season, have both graduated. She’s also an accomplished track and field student-athlete.
The heart and soul of Paetow in her first two years of high school volleyball, Dumas has moved within the district and will strengthen direct opponents Tompkins in the upcoming season. Her great all-around game will be a huge addition to her new team, which will be looking to find a new identity after graduating some influential seniors after playing in the State Tournament final just a few months ago. Dumas will form an incredibly strong setter duo with senior Erica Dellesky Erica Dellesky 5’10” | S Tompkins | 2024 State TX and will also be capable to help on offense with her skilled left hand – she got 742 assists and 525 kills in two seasons with Paetow.

Morton is another player that will add to Fort Bend Christian Academy, coming from TAPPS rivals St. Agnes Academy. A right side hitter with length, power and technical skills, she will bring a lot to the team’s offense in terms of versatility and consistency, adding to a team that already had senior Cambry Gerardi and junior Layne Bulow Layne Bulow 5’10” | DS/L Fort Bend Christian Academy | 2025 State TX at the pins and junior Bayleigh Minor Bayleigh Minor 6’1″ | MB Fort Bend Christian Academy | 2025 State #97 Nation TX in the middle, besides Ochelli. Also expect to see their blocking ability improve as that’s another of Morton’s strengths.
