We have seen prospects on our radar from club season step up, and players that may be less well-known are also stepping up. It’s a marathon for players adjusting to practicing and playing at the high school level, and dealing with the first rowdy high school crowd screaming while you try to serve in a critical situation. Here are some standouts we have seen so far!
Gines is in her second year of varsity for Mary Walker located in Springdale. Now listed at 6 foot 2, the outside has terrific length and has an overall game that has been on display this season. She is racking up digs and keeping her team in matches with her passing and defense, not just her dominating play at the net. Mary Walker took a set of perennial power Oakesdale before losing in 4, boding well for the team’s success later in the season.
Highlights
Harris needs to be discussed as a top player in the 2027 class. The setter is doing work for Curtis, a state title contender in the 4A class, playing tremendous defense and holding her own in battles against teams like Puyallup, Olympia, Lake Stevens, and Lynden. Curtis has been a bit banged up and has had to rely on their depth and toughness to work through some difficult early-season matches. Harris has great aggression and energy, she is a fierce competitor who wants to win.
Highlights
Smart has been critical in the early season success for Cashmere, including defeating defending state champion Chelan, a rare feat! The lefty has a big left-hand hammer, and she is scoring from every position across the front line. That power is only going to increase as she grows, and she will be counted on to help the Bulldogs as they make a run at a state tournament spot. Look for Smart to have a massive year of development playing the right side for Cru Performance during the club season,
