The calendar is rapidly approaching Presidents Day Weekend, and these players will be battling for the Gold Bracket in tournaments nationwide. Pin players have to take the impact swings to win a match and also make the smart play out of system to not give up easy points. Her shut down blocking is trouble for opposing outsides who have to work against her, she will eat up tight sets and confidently stuff down an overpass with two hands. She has a deceptive and accurate roll shot she uses as an off-speed, and is strong when she is digging swings out from the backrow. Sandberg had a monster game at Mt. Spokane, and played extremely well in the team's win over Wenatchee in the early part of the season. She added more variety to her offensive game than what we saw at the ECC where she played well as an eighth-grader, and was able to play defense and pass with grit and accuracy. Columbia River is an excellent place to develop and learn for a talented freshman, Gourley was able to play free and rip the ball when she had the opportunity. Next year she will be more relied upon to score as the Rapids chase another state title.
