It is about playing good volleyball at this time of the season and two teams that executed better Monday moved on to the region semifinals back at Bracken County on Wednesday at 6 p.m.

Montgomery County 3, Harrison County 0 (25-16, 25-9, 25-22)

The Indians are back in the region semifinals for the third time in four years after pounding out a victory over the disciplined Fillies.

Montgomery County simply got into a better rhythm than Harrison County. Sophie Fouch and [player_tooltip player_id='397723' first='Kate' last='Conn'] split time at setter and both put the ball in good places for the hitters. [player_tooltip player_id='477089' first='Sara' last='Zink'] had another good all-around game and Tia Terpening made good first contacts. [player_tooltip player_id='594516' first='Alexis' last='White'], [player_tooltip player_id='755626' first='Erin' last='Fawns'] and Zink finished in double digits in kills with [player_tooltip player_id='603805' first='Baylee' last='Warner'] getting in on the action. The Indians (26-12) served 10 aces to three for the Fillies (23-15).

Senior [player_tooltip player_id='477091' first='Audrey' last='Dawson'] tried to give the Fillies a chance digging up a lot of good balls, but the Fillies had no answer for the Montgomery County size. Lexie Highlander also had a good game setting.

The first game stayed close until Terpening landed some aces to let the Indians pull away. After dominating the second game, the Indians jumped ahead 10-3 only to see the Fillies come back to within one at 12-11. Harrison County did cut the lead to two late before Anna Allison finished the game with a kill.

The Fillies have eight seniors. They are Dawson, Lillian Watson, Owyn McCoy, Kaylee Fields, Jolie Hill, Carlie Mullett, Jaslyn Pinson and Briana Tucker,

Bishop Brossart 3, Bracken County 0 (25-22, 25-20, 25-12)

Winning that first game set the tone for this match. Brossart (25-11) built a 15-9 lead in that first game only to see the Bears come back and tie it at 20. The Bears led 22-21 before the Mustangs finished the game with a 4-0 run. [player_tooltip player_id='159379' first='Kate' last='Neltner'] put down an overpass. Then after a replay, [player_tooltip player_id='484451' first='Aubrey' last='Rebholz'] landed two aces to end that first game.

The second game stayed close with Bracken County building a 17-15 lead. Brossart came back to go up 21-20 then finished it with four straight points. [player_tooltip player_id='603546' first='Chloe' last='Hershey'] landed a kill before [player_tooltip player_id='515259' first='Callie' last='Ritter'] put down two balls to go with a Bracken long hit to end the game.

The third game saw Neltner and Hershey take over. Neltner put down three kills in a row and Hershey had an ace to give the Mustangs a 7-1 lead. That lead increased to 12 a couple times before the Mustangs put it away.

[player_tooltip player_id='212193' first='Macy' last='Lucas'] had a nice game digging and hitting for the Bears and [player_tooltip player_id='600935' first='Makenzie' last='Rudd'] made a number of big saves. [player_tooltip player_id='210745' first='Nicole' last='Archibald'] surpassed 1000 assists for her career and hit double figures in that category again.

Bracken County's season may be over, but the Bears (25-13) broke the school record for wins in a season and recorded a second straight 39th District championship. Archibald, Emma Knott, Alaynah Beard, Braelyn Garvey and Isabelle Straathof gradute this spring for the Bears.

White continues to control the net using her size. She put down a lot of balls in the creases and gave the Indians some solid serves in the win. White said the new rotation has led to more inside and outside balance for the Indians throwing off opponents. White credited teamwork for helping Montgomery County advance.

Terpening set the tone defensively with consistently smooth passes. She also did a good job landing balls for aces and setting up hitters when Montgomery County ventured out of system. Terpening said hustle plays are a mentality.
Volleyball games have their waves of ups and downs. No matter what, Neltner (pictured) is always talking to her teammates and keeping them in the right mindset.
