Our latest feature delved into a few Nebraska 2028s who gained momentum through one of club volleyball's most prestigious events. Triple Crown NIT brought future leaders from across the age spectrum, and the 2028s were just a small part of the bigger picture. So, let's bring on a few 2027s.

The Class of 2027 will kick off its recruiting journey this summer, so plenty of eyes were fixed on these future stars. Here are a few of our standout picks from the NIT field.

Thayer-Mencke was one of many new additions to the [program_tooltip program_id='428717' first='Nebraska' last='ONE'] 16 Synergy fray this year. Her sharp lefty swings yielded Open-level success last season, and the same trend is playing out in 2025. The Fort Calhoun sophomore has a knack for finding open seams even if she's off-balance or doesn't get a full approach. Thayer-Mencke can also anchor 16 Synergy's block against the kind of terminal attackers we saw in Kansas City. That blocking prowess helped propel the team to some clutch opening-day victories, and it showed up again en route to the Open bracket championship.

Here's our chance to check in on a state champion. Meyers' stock was already soaring before the 2025 club campaign began, as she helped Superior High School complete a dramatic march to the state championship. She is now embarking on a new club journey with [program_tooltip program_id='428717' first='Nebraska' last='ONE'] 16 Synergy and is a multi-faceted force with her new team. Meyers first landed on our radar as a hard-hitting middle blocker, but we now know she can carry so many other roles. 16 Synergy allows Meyers to swing away on the pin in first-ball situations, and she has even earned some passing reps in early-season action. All of these skills developed further at NIT.

Our next 2027 rankings update will a high-impact “transfer” from up north. Van Kirk started her prep career in Montana but has moved to the Nebraska scene for 16s action. Her presence with [program_tooltip program_id='428743' first='VCNebraska' last=''] 16 Elite has offered an immediate boost in frontcourt firepower and lockdown net defense. VanKirk's length makes her an ideal setting choice in out-of-system situations, even if you'd expect most of those sets to go to the left side. This dynamic opposite produced some indefensible heat at NIT and has formed a cohesive bond with her new teammates. Future national events will give us an even better glimpse at this Montana-to-Nebraska transplant from the Class of 2027.

Drevo ascended to the VCNebraska 16 Elite's 2025 lineup and has already proven her readiness for the national gauntlet. The Lincoln Christian multi-sport athlete is a multi-pin threat who can also dig dimes in the middle-back area. We're accustomed to seeing Drevo dominate on the left pin, as she did with VCN 15 Black during last summer's run through Nationals. She now brings the same influence to 16 Elite and will be a key part of the team's future pin rotations.

Athletes on new club teams have become an unintentional theme of this feature. Gregg moved to Premier Nebraska 16 Gold this year and is building on the qualifier success she saw at the 15s level. Her physicality and strength in the middle have been a major factor in what was already a stout 16 Gold frontcourt. Gregg works hard to become an available attacker in transition and has added a few more shots to her arsenal. This is another case of a smooth transition for one of Nebraska's up-and-coming 2027s.

Graves has maintained the right-side excellence we expect from the Papio South sophomore. This imposing opposite is one of the most natural wing blockers among Nebraska 2027s. Graves combines that with some sky-high attacks behind the setter and a ton of positive energy on the court. 16 Gold's balance and depth took big steps forward at NIT, proving this squad can win with any lineup or personnel.

Chapman wrote several new chapters to her scouting report in Kansas City. She took command of the left-side hitter spot for Premier Nebraska 16 Black and found growing success as NIT progressed. This Omaha Marian standout was particularly effective at working off high hands and turning the ball down the line to score. Chapman joins a 16 Black group that has seen its share of triumphs on club volleyball's biggest stages. That's a perfect way to enter the spotlight.
