Last weekend, we saw some of the nation's top prep talent in Kansas City. Nebraska athletes were in the middle of the action, and many eyes were on emerging stars from the Class of 2027. Breakout performers rose to the occasion.

Here are a few of our picks from NIT's holiday extravaganza.

Eilenstine has enjoyed a smooth transition to this year's VCNebraska 16 Elite squad, and NIT was perhaps her best outing yet. We saw this Elkhorn South sophomore's full repertoire of six-rotation skills in Kansas City. She was a go-to left-side attacker in the front row, but Eilenstine was also not afraid to dig in and play tough middle-back defense. 16 Elite's aggressive, up-tempo style is a perfect match for Eilenstine's ability to make quick reads in any rotation. That combination should flourish as the 2025 season progresses.

Sure, it's hard to classify Moser as a breakout performer giving her high standing in our Class of 2027 rankings. Despite the wealth of accolades she's already received, Moser showed us another layer of determination and excellence in Kansas City. The [program_tooltip program_id='428743' first='VCNebraska' last=''] 16 Elite signal-caller went down in the team's challenge match after tweaking her ankle. Moser promptly got up, toughed it out, and led her team to victory. This grit and leadership can inspire an entire lineup--especially when it comes from your setter.

Our breakout stars from [program_tooltip program_id='428717' first='Nebraska' last='ONE'] 16 Synergy are the "wildcard" players. One of those is Bowman, a Grand Island Northwest standout who initially made her mark as a game-changing setter. She could still carry that role throughout her prep career, but Bowman's role with 16 Synergy looks a little different. The Central Nebraska standout dons the libero jersey for this group and demonstrates her willingness to command the backcourt. Bowman dug heat in Kansas City as 16 Synergy marched to a huge title triumph in the Open bracket. Stocks are rising across the board.

Fettin is another of the big wildcards for 16 Synergy. Like Bowman, Fettin can lock down the libero jersey and put her backcourt prowess on display. However, as mentioned in previous features, this Papio sophomore was a high-volume outside hitter for the Monarchs last fall. Fettin can effectively play a defensive specialist role for 16 Synergy while also carrying a back-row attacking threat from that position. Another layer of multi-talented influence from Fettin could be a difference-maker as 16 Synergy embarks on future USAV qualifiers.

Bails saw a ton of action during Premier Nebraska 16 Gold's successful stint in NIT's power pools. The Papio South prep athlete has made a tremendous injury comeback over the last year and took another step forward in Kansas City. Bails made several clutch swings on the left side, but her scrappy defense was perhaps most enlightening. She produced quality first touches along the end line and never shied away from NIT's long list of lethal attackers. 16 Gold's depth is a serious advantage.

Cramer is the driving force behind 16 Gold's frontcourt physicality. We saw this emerging middle blocker make considerable gains with Omaha Marian last year, and that upward trajectory has continued into the club campaign. Cramer can work with any tempo in the middle and has become more adept at finding open zones across the net. Of course, she will usually pace the blocking category for this team, too.

Langhorst adds to Premier Nebraska's strength across the 16s age group. This Archbishop Bergan prep star represents 16 Black and battled through the tough NIT gauntlet outside of power pools. She's a physical force in the middle who can also move laterally to close blocks from pin to pin. Langhorst's sky-high reach presented tough matchups for opposing attackers, and the small-town star is establishing her own offensive presence, too.
