OVR Bid Preview: 15 National Contenders

<!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>With five bids on the line at the OVR bid tournament this coming weekend in the 15 National division, teams will be competing specifically for two National and three American bids to the USAV national championships this coming summer. Here are a few teams that should contend well to secure their spot.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>Mintonette m.51</strong><br>Likely to be a top seed in this event, this young Mintonette team is talented with good depth of contributors throughout their rotations. <strong>Allyson Thornsley</strong> is a combo setter and pin hitter with really good tools. A 2027 prospect, she is just one of a handful of high quality setters throughout this club that are athletic and dynamic. As an attacker, she is equally impressive in her pace and range at the point of contact. In the middle is 6'1 <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='721566' first='Sloan' last='Parker']</strong>. She is one I continue to learn about regarding her tools. Working with quality setting and ball control, she sees good opportunities to terminate. With some of the best length on this team, she uses her contact point well to score with good control and power. [player_tooltip player_id='582211' first='Sedona' last='Weisbrod'] is a key point scorer primarily from the left side. Her volume of opportunity can be high in any given tournament and she produces well with an aggressive swing and knack for turning the ball to challenge the edges of the block and court with good success. This team has other prospects worthy of mention so I encourage you to go get a look at them.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>AVC 15 Red</strong><br>Outside hitter [player_tooltip player_id='582209' first='Frankie' last='Brkic'] is one of the best young hitters in the Ohio 2028 class at this point. Her maturity as a hitter is noticeable in what she can do in system and through more challenging opportunities. She has six-rotation tools, which means she can contribute in a variety of ways. A strength of all AVC teams is their passing and defense and this team is no exception. As their pins typically have good passing fundamentals, they consistently produce top talent at the libero role. [player_tooltip player_id='512410' first='Lola' last='Loncar'] can control the serve receive patterns with her skills and presence among her fellow passers. Defensively, she pursues the ball with good purpose and knows how to manipulate her angles well to give her team good time to get into their transition action. Middle [player_tooltip player_id='582208' first='Eliana' last='Ashley'] is fun to watch as it is easy to identify that she has a high ceiling to her game and potential. She is athletic and works well throughout her role with effort and noticeable progress as she has shown big ability to terminate with authority at times. This is another team with good depth in their roster. AVC and Mintonette met recently at the MEQ qualifier with Mintonette earning a very competitive 2-1 win as both teams finished relatively even in the upper third of the final standings.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[program_tooltip program_id='431827' first='Elevation' last=''] 15 Tony</strong><br>The third highest placing team (behind Mintonette and AVC respectively) at the recent MEQ qualifier in the 15 Open division, this Elevation team has tools to compete well with most teams. Pin hitter [player_tooltip player_id='519643' first='Evie' last='Schiller'] is a 2027 prospect who isn't afraid to take big swings. She has good all-around skills and can contribute in the passing and defensive phases to match her production as an attacker. At 6'0, [player_tooltip player_id='582229' first='Avery' last='Brannon'] has continued to improve her versatility as a viable point scorer at both the right pin and in the middle while also capable of creating good defensive presence at the net. Setter [player_tooltip player_id='582202' first='Kelsey' last='Green'] is a critical component as a primary distributor and she is at her best when their passing and defense can get thir offense in system as she can be deceptive at her contact point in the air to dish tempo and accuracy through all three attacking roles.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>It is safe to consider that these three teams will be vying for the two National division bids with all three entering the event with a good chance o leaving with a bid in hand. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph -->
