It's hard to believe Iowa high school volleyball practice officially starts in a few weeks. Camps kick off next week. It's exciting thinking about watching the state's top teams compete on the road to the championships in Coralville come November.

With that in mind, we're rolling on our conference previews and players to watch within those leagues in preparation for the campaign ahead. Next up is the second half of the 12-team WaMaC (alphabetically): :

MOUNT VERNON

2024 Finish: 45-4 (3A State Champions)

Key Returnees: [player_tooltip player_id='488579' first='Mavrik' last='Schweer'], DS/L; [player_tooltip player_id='822988' first='Cali' last='Whitaker'], MH; [player_tooltip player_id='800152' first='Isabelle' last='Logue'], DS/L; [player_tooltip player_id='808105' first='Sophia' last='Meester'], OH.

Key Losses: Paige Schurbon; Eryn Jackson; Sydney Maue; Sydney Huber; Chloe Meester.

Outlook: To say the Mustangs lost a lot to graduation would be an understatement. Chloe Meester and Maue will play Power 4 volleyball, and Huber is a D-I basketball player. Mount Vernon is a strong program and returns proven talent that will make it a tough out in 3A again, however. Whitaker is an excellent athlete who burns up the track in the spring. She's a two-way middle that will impact matches. [player_tooltip player_id='808105' first='Sophia' last='Meester'] has steadily improved and is ready to break out fully as a six-rotation standout. Schweer should be one of the better back-row performers in the league, and Logue looks ready to contribute more as a defensive specialist. Emma Hoffman, [player_tooltip player_id='773029' first='Brynlee' last='Bettcher'] and [player_tooltip player_id='758844' first='Avri' last='Trumblee-Looney'] are among a group of inexperienced players competing for rotation spots.

SOLON

2024 Finish: 28-14 (3A Regional Semifinalist)

Key Returnees: [player_tooltip player_id='373682' first='Kennedey' last='Whitford'], DS/L; [player_tooltip player_id='845393' first='Cydney' last='Jaster'], S; [player_tooltip player_id='448350' first='Jozie' last='Lahr'], MH/RS; [player_tooltip player_id='523159' first='Macy' last=''] Fuller, DS/L; Izzy Frees, S; [player_tooltip player_id='455710' first='Kiley' last='Devery'], RS/OH; [player_tooltip player_id='805108' first='Charleigh' last='Whitford'], DS/OH.

Key Losses: Adelyn Miller; Grace Erwin; Yasmine Sell.

Outlook: Erwin and Sell were staples in the lineup for years. They will be missed. That said, with what Solon returns in production and the potential of inexperienced players, the Spartans could make a run in 3A. [player_tooltip player_id='373682' first='Kennedey' last='Whitford'] (South Dakota) is one of the better back-rowers around, and her sister, [player_tooltip player_id='805108' first='Charleigh' last='Whitford'], is an excellent choice as a breakout performer for 2025. Devery (Fresno State) is one of the state's top opposite pins. She can help in other areas, too. Lahr is an established producer in the front row, as well, and Jaster and Frees are versatile setters. Fuller flashes potential in the back row. Look for [player_tooltip player_id='826235' first='Gable' last='Knight'], [player_tooltip player_id='758827' first='Addison' last='Singsank'], [player_tooltip player_id='795215' first='Kalynn' last='Timmons'], Avery Kellen, [player_tooltip player_id='720363' first='Scarlett' last='Ferin'], Harper Nicholson, [player_tooltip player_id='758765' first='Kendall' last='Yale'], [player_tooltip player_id='762291' first='Beckett' last='Kruse'], [player_tooltip player_id='779198' first='Emersyn' last='Bucheit'] and [player_tooltip player_id='754537' first='Amelia' last='Guinn'] to be among the group competing to crack the rotation.

SOUTH TAMA

2024 Finish: 13-20

Key Returnees: Keinzle Boriskey, MH/RS; [player_tooltip player_id='835425' first='Madison' last='Boriskey'], OH/RS; [player_tooltip player_id='818266' first='Rylee' last='Ridout'], MH; Vanessa Veit, S; [player_tooltip player_id='514991' first='Paisley' last='Jo Bro'], OH/RS.

Key Losses: Skyla Beck; Macy Welsh; Cailey Brown; Janette Cervantes.

Outlook: The Trojans showed signs of improving their standing in a strong conference last season. And despite key graduation losses, they bring back talented performers and have inexperienced players ready to seize their opportunities. Bro is an established six-rotation standout. She's joined by Keinzle and Madison Borinskey along with Rylee Rideout in giving South Tama a chance to be formidable up front. Veit should take another step forward in production. Madeline Paxton, [player_tooltip player_id='806710' first='Maylee' last='Rucker'], [player_tooltip player_id='798628' first='Scout' last='Ridout'] and [player_tooltip player_id='778002' first='Brylee' last='Nelson'] will push for playing time. [player_tooltip player_id='769693' first='Stella' last='Zmolek'] is a freshman to know.

VINTON-SHELLSBURG

2024 Finish: 7-29

Key Returnees: [player_tooltip player_id='832323' first='Grace' last='Fish'], OH/MH; Aly Erickson, S; Camden Erhardt, RS/OH.

Key Losses: Josie Coots; Addy Chvala; Haylee Karr; Sadie Burke; Molly Zearly.

Outlook: Replacing graduated producers will be a priority for the Vikings early in the season, but they have a good foundation on which to build. Fish already shines through a six rotations as she heads into her junior campaign, and Erickson is a steady, well-rounded performer at setter. Last season, Erhardt and [player_tooltip player_id='792687' first='Brynn' last='Wilden'] flashed the potential for more and are capable of taking on bigger roles. [player_tooltip player_id='815953' first='Lily' last='Griffith'], Madeline Blais, Rylee Boggess, Zoey McClintock and others will be competing for rotation time.

WEST DELAWARE

2024 Finish: 39-7 (3A State Quarterfinalist)

Key Returnees: Vedah Langel, MH; [player_tooltip player_id='389858' first='Lauren' last='LeClere'], MH; Maleigha Hildebrand, DS/L; [player_tooltip player_id='523167' first='Natalie' last=''] Mensen, S.

Key Losses: Hannah Cantwell; Kirstyn Kolbet; Olivia Halverson; Brooke Krogmann; Kate Wenger.

Outlook: One of the more consistently good programs around, West Delaware's depth and development will be tested this season after graduation brought about significant losses. The foundation is strong with four important rotation members returning, however. Langel and LeClere are dominant two-way performers at the net. Mensen is a dynamic setter that defends in both rows, sets up teammates and can expose holes in the opponent defense. Hildebrand is reliable in the back row. Norah Peyton and Emma Schmidt will be in the mix with other inexperienced players to break into the lineup.

WILLIAMSBURG

2024 Finish: 18-11 (3A Regional Semifinalist)

Key Returnees: [player_tooltip player_id='849192' first='Ellie' last='Nielsen'], S/RS; [player_tooltip player_id='843242' first='Keston' last='Spratt'], RS/DS/L; [player_tooltip player_id='730449' first='Kylee' last='Suhr'], MH/OH; [player_tooltip player_id='811391' first='Ava' last='Hocker'], DS/OH; [player_tooltip player_id='805918' first='Jordyn' last='Skaggs'], MH/RS; [player_tooltip player_id='589347' first='Clarissa' last='Suhr'], OH/DS; [player_tooltip player_id='551847' first='Averi' last='Nielsen'], S/RS.

Key Losses: Kalon Spratt; [player_tooltip player_id='533845' first='Taylor' last='Otte'].

Outlook: Kalon Spratt's graduation leaves a hole to fill in the back row, and Otte's transfer to Iowa City West removes another piece from a program on the rise. With what is returning, the Raiders have a lot to be hopeful they can keep moving forward in 2025. Clarissa and [player_tooltip player_id='730449' first='Kylee' last='Suhr'] are front-row factors, and Ellie and Averni Nielsen are versatile setters capable of contributing around the court. Hocker and Skaggs also can chip with production from multiple positions. They should take on bigger roles in 2025 as should [player_tooltip player_id='843242' first='Keston' last='Spratt']. Less experienced student-athletes like [player_tooltip player_id='842936' first='Jenna' last='Yearian'] and [player_tooltip player_id='804949' first='Brooklyn' last='Grimm'] will push for playing time.
