The Kansas Class of 2028 rankings were updated earlier this morning. Those rankings include 250 total athletes, and several who made significant jumps up the rankings.

As athletes head into their junior season, the most significant factors in the rankings are the ability for scouts to find individual stats for athletes and which athletes have competed in front of scouts.

This age group is too young to have college offers (yet), so those are not reflected in the rankings. Which volleyball club a player competes with, or whether an athlete plays club ball, does not factor into the rankings process. I still respect the multiple-sport athlete who does not have the time, money, or a team in proximity to play club ball. Having said that, scouts still have to find you, so sell yourself on social media and try to get seen at other events like college camps, summer tournaments, or volleyball showcases.

Please be aware that athletes with completed Prep Dig Profiles often get a slight advantage in the rankings early, but that being a subscriber to the site DOES NOT impact a player's ranking. Profiles on all Prep Network sites are free, and an athlete shows a commitment to the recruitment process when their profile is as complete as possible.

Gilmore moved up from No. 77 overall into the Top 20. She is now ranked No. 17 overall by Prep Dig Kansas. She checked all the boxes on how a player can move up the rankings. Post impressive stats, check. She recorded 298 kills and 58 blocks during her sophomore season. Complete Prep Dig Profile, check. As one can see from her professional-looking profile photo, she completed all the information that college coaches can access. Extra effort, check. She attended the last Prep Dig Showcase and advanced her stock by balling out in KCK.

Lewis jumped up the rankings by posting impressive sophomore season stats. She took full advantage of the "varsity stage." After a freshman season in which she played just five varsity sets for Andover Central. She took over the starting setter position and dished out 849 assists in 83 sets played. She is well-coached, plays with discipline, and can control the pace of play, depending on the situation.

McCune's rise up the rankings is more about her natural height, potential, and taking the time to get noticed. She had an injury-shortened freshman season, but is tall, physical, and has taken the steps necessary to get noticed by Prep Dig scouts. She recently completed her Prep Dig profile and reached out to scouts, explaining her season and singing the praises of the older teammates on her squad who have benefited from exposure on Prep Dig. A solid combination of selfishness, unselfishness, humility, confidence, and humbleness can still go a long way.

Asmann made a meteoric rise up the rankings by posting eye-popping sophomore stats and by guaranteeing she would get noticed by recently reaching out to Prep Dig. Prep Kansas still has just one scout in the state, so it's a challenge to provide athletes from the Wichita area, smaller schools, and Western Kansas schools with the recognition they deserve. I have to give Derby credit. The school is known for its football and girls' basketball programs, but since they share their team stats on public platforms, it helps the Panther athletes get noticed. Asmann's chunky sophomore stat line included a team-high 283 kills along with 216 digs, 110 assists, 52 blocks, and 45 aces.

Deiter made a late dash up the rankings. The state champion six-rotation athlete finished her sophomore season with 313 kills, 253 digs, 316 serve receptions, 44 aces, and toting championship hardware back to Silver Lake. She took the bait and passed the passive-aggressive test I administered over the weekend. I featured seven ranked athletes with incomplete Player Profiles in a preview report. She was the only one of the seven complete her FREE profile after the report was published. That's the type of student-athlete I would recruit if I were coaching college.
