Hoosiers At GJNCs: 15 Freedom Preview

Making the rounds on the USAV website, you can see the sheer number of teams that have qualified to GJNCs later this summer is massive. Within those thousands of players on hundreds of teams, there are quite a few that hail from the Hoosier State. Nearly every division from 15s to 17s inclusive have at least one team coming from Indiana, and the 15 Freedom division is no different. Here are eight players from two different Indiana-based squads that look to turbocharge their recruiting stock in the biggest tournament of the season.    With length and springs, Miss Coon can play either middle position, and might be an even better M1 because of her ability to attack off of one foot. Her high-and-hard tendencies when attacking are refined and aggressive, while her blocking presses well across the net to cut down the angles opponents have to choose from.     Early in the fall, “AC” was a shy attacker finding a little playing time on the varsity after owning most of her JV opponents. Fast-forward to late this spring, and Adelynn is a full-time, six-rotation attacker with the ability to do a little bit of everything the next level requires of an outside hitter. Add the athleticism to her high volleyball IQ, and Miss Crispin is the complete package in this class.     With size as her calling card, Sophia is an exceptional blocking right side with her attacking slowly catching up to a serviceable level. Coupled with the two middles on this roster, Sophia completes one of the bigger block combinations in the 15s division here in Indiana, and with a little more training and weight room work, her attack will be just as accomplished.     Easily one of the best middles in this class, Alana is a big and physical M2 that can terminate quickly on each and every zero-tempo ball in front of her setter. Finding that connection early will be key in her future development, as I believe she's jumping higher NOW than she did just a few months ago in the late high school season.     One of three Penn athletes listed today, Harper's quality of play stands out in all aspects of the game. Her footwork is practiced and purposeful, her arm swing looks repeatable and strong and she can anticipate the game well and keep her errors to a minimum.     Even though her size might relegate her to a pin hitting position after this club season, Carly's ability to be an M2 this season is what gains our notice in today's article. Able to hit multiple angles in the middle despite her undersized nature, Miss Clauss has a long future ahead of her as a useful support attacker from anywhere coaches choose to place her.     With smooth footwork and buttery soft hands, Josie has “the look” of a next-level setter, and acts as such when playing. Her location is solid, she can get to any tight pass with her length and jumping ability, and defends her position better than most setters in this or any class.     Already earning all-tournament honors this spring, Emily is a hard-hitting, high-flying right side who hits the heaviest ball on this roster. Able to hit from either pin with equal aggression and success, I have admittedly listed Miss Noto FAR too low in this rankings list—-she should see a marked improvement in that number next to “IN” in her profile sooner rather than later because of her strength and her high volleyball IQ.
