The 15 Open Gold Pool brought together some of the best young volleyball talent in the country, including many of California's premier clubs. Every athlete is skilled, every rally is contested, and the smallest details, including serve receive, transition footwork, defensive discipline, decision-making, and execution in pressure moments, often determine who leaves with a national championship.

Like many California volleyball fans, I found myself hoping for an all-California championship match between [program_tooltip program_id='429573' first='Wave' last='Volleyball Club'] 15-Brennan and [program_tooltip program_id='876208' first='SC' last='Rockstar'] 15-Carlos. OT 15 T Randy from Florida had other plans, knocking [program_tooltip program_id='876208' first='SC' last='Rockstar'] out in the semifinals before WAVE captured the 15 Open National Championship with a hard-fought 25-21, 23-25, 15-11 victory over OT.

One of the biggest challenges at any event I scout is that every court is filled with athletes deserving of recognition. As much as I would love it, I simply cannot follow every team from first serve to match point. Instead, I move from court to court, evaluating the athletes whose play consistently draws my attention. The players featured below earned these write-ups through the volleyball details that matter most. They process the game well, respond under pressure, communicate with teammates, create advantages, and find ways to influence winning volleyball.

These are the athletes who made me stop, watch a little longer, and write their names in my notebook. More importantly, they are the players whose volleyball IQ, physical tools, and competitive habits project well at the collegiate level. They are also the athletes I believe college coaches should continue following as this class develops.

I have been following [player_tooltip player_id='700675' first='Baylee' last='Wilson'] for a long time, and one conclusion I have come to is that she changes the geometry of the court. She has the power to terminate through the block from both the front and back row, but what has impressed me most throughout her progression is her decision-making.

As her game has matured, Baylee has learned to recognize when defenders are sitting on her swing. She is comfortable attacking the deep corners, mixing in tips and off-speed shots, and using the entire court to keep defenses honest. Out of system, her arm speed never changes, allowing her to remain an offensive threat regardless of the quality of the set.

Defensively, she reads the game exceptionally well, delivers quality first contacts to target, and continues to impact rallies with disciplined blocking and heavy hands over the net. She influences the match long after the ball leaves her hand.

The best part about Baylee's game is that I don't believe she has peaked yet. She continues to add new layers to her game every season, and I believe she is on track to become one of those athletes you simply can't take your eyes off.

[player_tooltip player_id='765044' first='Iliya' last='Little'] competes with an edge that shows up from the first whistle. Defensively, she stays locked into every rally and consistently puts herself in position to make quality plays. Offensively, she attacks with enough strength to power through the block while maintaining the confidence to stay aggressive throughout the match. Her serve receive remains disciplined, allowing her to contribute in all six rotations. Iliya plays the game with a steady confidence that makes her presence felt from start to finish.

[player_tooltip player_id='766777' first='Orna' last='Lavin'] creates tremendous momentum through her approach, allowing her to attack the ball with authority and a high contact point. She generates strong arm snap through the block and consistently keeps pressure on opposing defenses with an aggressive offensive mindset. What I appreciate most is that her power begins with her footwork. She stays connected through her approach, transfers her momentum efficiently into her swing, and creates clean, explosive contact. Attackers who consistently generate that kind of body control become difficult to defend because they don't rely solely on strength. They rely on sound mechanics that translate from rally to rally.

One of the biggest improvements I've seen over the past club season has come from [player_tooltip player_id='765695' first='Isabella' last='Torres Wallace']. She is playing with a completely different level of confidence, and it shows in every phase of her offensive game. Her approach is stronger, more explosive, and allows her to attack the ball with greater authority. Just as important, she wants the ball in critical moments. That confidence, paired with her passion for the game, has transformed her into a much more dangerous attacker than I saw earlier in the season. Her trajectory continues to point in the right direction.

[player_tooltip player_id='787777' first='Elyse' last='Wong'] plays long, strong, and under control. She generates excellent momentum to the ball, creating a heavy arm swing that finishes with strong snap through contact. Her footwork consistently places her in position to attack with balance, and her serve remains a reliable weapon that applies pressure from the first whistle. She has developed into the type of attacker who doesn't need to overpower every ball because her mechanics allow her to create consistent offensive pressure.

[player_tooltip player_id='742790' first='Andrijana' last='Beman'] attacks with confidence and refuses to become predictable. Her strong arm snap allows her to drive the ball with pace, but what impressed me most was her willingness to use the entire court. She recognizes when to stay aggressive and when to change the angle of attack, giving herself multiple ways to score instead of relying on one swing. Attackers who combine power with shot selection become much more difficult to defend, and Andrijana continues to show that versatility.

[player_tooltip player_id='731906' first='Olena' last='Harasymowycz'] competes with a relentless determination to make every play possible, regardless of where the ball takes her. She never looks defeated, never gives up on a rally, and consistently approaches every point with the mindset that the next touch belongs to her. Coaches can refine technique and improve mechanics, but the competitive drive Olena brings to the court is something athletes either have or they don't. She understands when to attack aggressively and when to use the entire court, making her much more than a power hitter. Her decision-making at the net keeps defenders guessing, while her length and disciplined press allow her to take away valuable attacking space as a blocker. She continues to apply pressure from the service line and never takes a play off defensively, constantly moving to put herself in position to impact the next contact. Momo's game is built on smart volleyball, and that combination of physicality and decision-making makes her a difficult player to defend.

She listens intently to instruction between rallies, immediately applies corrections, and carries those adjustments into the next point. That ability to process feedback in real time is a trait every college coach values because it accelerates development and builds trust within an offense.

The deeper I watched into the Gold Pool, the more one thing became clear. At this level, physical ability is expected. What separates athletes is everything built around it.

The players featured throughout this article won with disciplined footwork, quality first contact, efficient transitions, aggressive blocking, smart shot selection, and the ability to process the game one play ahead. They understood when to stay aggressive, when to make adjustments, and how to continue impacting the match even when they weren't earning the final kill.

Throughout this championship run, I watched athletes apply disciplined footwork, efficient transition mechanics, aggressive blocking, quality communication, and high volleyball IQ under pressure. Those habits are developed long before athletes step onto a national championship court. They are built through intentional coaching, demanding training environments, and a commitment to teaching athletes how to think through the game.
