Every athlete is skilled, every rally is contested, and the smallest details, including serve receive, transition footwork, defensive discipline, decision-making, and execution in pressure moments, often determine who leaves with a national championship.

Like many California volleyball fans, I found myself hoping for an all-California championship match between [program_tooltip program_id='429573' first='Wave' last='Volleyball Club'] 15-Brennan and [program_tooltip program_id='876208' first='SC' last='Rockstar'] 15-Carlos. OT 15 T Randy from Florida had other plans, knocking [program_tooltip program_id='876208' first='SC' last='Rockstar'] out in the semifinals before WAVE captured the 15 Open National Championship with a hard-fought 25-21, 23-25, 15-11 victory over OT.

One of the biggest challenges at any event I scout is that every court is filled with athletes deserving of recognition. As much as I would love it, I simply cannot follow every team from first serve to match point. Instead, I move from court to court, evaluating the athletes whose play consistently draws my attention. The players featured below earned these write-ups through the volleyball details that matter most. They process the game well, respond under pressure, communicate with teammates, create advantages, and find ways to influence winning volleyball.

These are the athletes who made me stop, watch a little longer, and write their names in my notebook. More importantly, they are the players whose volleyball IQ, physical tools, and competitive habits project well at the collegiate level. They are also the athletes I believe college coaches should continue following as this class develops.

I have been following [player_tooltip player_id='700675' first='Baylee' last='Wilson'] for a long time, and one conclusion I have come to is that she changes the geometry of the court. She has the power to terminate through the block from both the front and back row, but what has impressed me most throughout her progression is her decision-making.

As her game has matured, Baylee has learned to recognize when defenders are sitting on her swing. She is comfortable attacking the deep corners, mixing in tips and off-speed shots, and using the entire court to keep defenses honest. Out of system, her arm speed never changes, allowing her to remain an offensive threat regardless of the quality of the set.

Defensively, she reads the game exceptionally well, delivers quality first contacts to target, and continues to impact rallies with disciplined blocking and heavy hands over the net. She influences the match long after the ball leaves her hand.

The best part about Baylee's game is that I don't believe she has peaked yet. She continues to add new layers to her game every season, and I believe she is on track to become one of those athletes you simply can't take your eyes off.

~ Michelle Bamford @Coachable247

[player_tooltip player_id='999032' first='Brooke' last='Proctor'] glides across the court with an efficiency that immediately catches your attention. She rarely wastes movement, consistently arrives balanced to the ball, and gives her hitters clean, hittable sets. Defensively, she remains disciplined with her blocking press and shows excellent timing at the net. Offensively, she isn't afraid to attack with setter dumps that force blockers to respect her on every touch. She plays with a high volleyball IQ, competes for every ball, and consistently makes technically sound decisions that elevate the players around her.

~ Michelle Bamford @Coachable247

[player_tooltip player_id='756179' first='Chandler' last='Short'] plays with confidence that spreads throughout her offense. Her beautiful extension on the back set allows her to deliver consistent tempo, especially when the pass isn't perfect. She is comfortable making difficult sets, challenges blockers with timely setter dumps, and attacks second-ball opportunities without hesitation. Defensively, she stays disciplined, trusts her positioning, and doesn't abandon her responsibilities. Her ability to make high-level decisions while remaining composed gives WAVE another offensive weapon beyond simply distributing the ball.

~ Michelle Bamford @Coachable247

[player_tooltip player_id='778971' first='Celeste' last='Kemle']'s growth has been impossible to ignore. She attacks with authority, generating heavy snap and clean contact while maintaining the confidence to terminate in big moments. What impressed me just as much was how she handled being targeted in serve receive during the championship match. Rather than allowing the pressure to affect her, she remained composed and continued to deliver quality first contacts. That level of poise speaks not only to her competitive maturity, but also to the work being done behind the scenes training with Coach Kyi and the WAVE staff.

~ Michelle Bamford @Coachable247

[player_tooltip player_id='517654' first='Olivia' last='Karvelis'] covers an incredible amount of court without looking rushed. Her ability to read the hitter early allows her to beat the ball to the spot rather than chase it after contact. She works relentlessly in the back row, stays balanced through her movements, and consistently creates quality first contacts that keep her team in system. Liberos who can anticipate instead of simply react become invaluable at the next level, and Olivia continues to show those instincts. Watching Olivia compete, it is easy to understand why the University of Washington saw her as the right fit for its program. She has the instincts, discipline, and volleyball IQ that translate exceptionally well to the collegiate game.

~ Michelle Bamford @Coachable247

[player_tooltip player_id='770227' first='Zoe' last='Merz'] continues to make meaningful adjustments to her offensive game. She has created more space in transition, allowing herself to attack with greater efficiency and a cleaner approach to the ball. What stands out most is how quickly she applies coaching. Corrections don't linger. She processes feedback, implements it almost immediately, and continues building better habits throughout the match. That level of coachability, paired with her steady offensive growth, makes her a player whose ceiling continues to rise.

~ Michelle Bamford @Coachable247

[player_tooltip player_id='999043' first='Emily' last='Dilmore'] processes the game one step ahead. One of my favorite plays of the weekend came on a routine free ball. Before the defense could reset, she recognized the opportunity and immediately delivered the ball to the outside, creating offense before the opposing block ever had a chance to organize. It's the kind of subtle, high-IQ decision that rarely shows up on a stat sheet but consistently separates athletes who dictate rallies from those who simply react to them.

At the net, Dilmore continues to create problems. She continues to elevate every part of her game, making an impact as an attacker, blocker, and competitor. The athleticism is obvious, but what separates Jael is how consistently she influences winning volleyball. She has all the tools to project at the Division I level, and I believe her best volleyball is still ahead of her.

~ Michelle Bamford @Coachable247

[player_tooltip player_id='765040' first='Tymane' last='Allen'] brings explosive firepower to the outside and has the ability to change the momentum of a rally with one swing. Her arm is fast, her contact is heavy, and when she creates separation from the block, she is extremely difficult to defend. What impressed me most is that she continues to refine her game. She is learning how to attack around bigger blocks instead of simply through them, and as she continues adding those layers to her offense, her effectiveness will only continue to grow. The physical tools are already there. The refinement is what makes her ceiling so exciting.

~ Michelle Bamford @Coachable247

Every team needs an athlete who changes the energy in the gym, and [player_tooltip player_id='770397' first='Sienna' last='Cicero'] is that player for [program_tooltip program_id='876208' first='SC' last='Rockstar']. She attacks with pace from both the front and back row, but her impact extends well beyond her offensive production. One of the things I appreciate most about Arianna is her ability to recognize who is impacting the match and continue feeding the hot hand. She understands that great setters don't simply distribute the ball equally.
