is that type of player. Every time the ball is set in her direction, you find yourself anticipating something special. She continues to elevate every part of her game, making an impact as an attacker, blocker, and competitor. The athleticism is obvious, but what separates Jael is how consistently she influences winning volleyball. She has all the tools to project at the Division I level, and I believe her best volleyball is still ahead of her.

Jael Smith’s favorite moment from the weekend started with a call that did not go her team’s way.
After a hard swing forced a shanked pass into the next court, a ball rolled onto the playing surface. Even though the game ball was no longer near the play, the referee called a replay.
Her team was frustrated.
Jael’s response was simple.
Get the next point.
On the very next rally, the opposing team set their outside hitter. Jael pressed over the net, sealed the block, and sent the ball straight down onto the floor.
The point mattered because of the moment.
Instead of focusing on something she could not control, she immediately shifted her attention to the next opportunity.
That approach reflects one of the biggest areas of growth in her game this season. Early in the year, mistakes had a tendency to linger. Then a coach shared something that stayed with her.
It took you less than two seconds to make that mistake. Don’t let those seconds determine the hour you played during this game.
That perspective changed the way she competes.
As she prepares for another NTDP opportunity, Mater Dei summer training, and her first college camps, Jael seems excited about every chance to keep learning. She repeatedly referenced gaining knowledge, building confidence, and remaining open to feedback.
Her goal is not to become a different player.
It is to keep becoming a better version of the player she already is. Jael is becoming.

named Top Performer at PrepDig’s Exposure Tour in Gardena, CA.
Jael was a defensively dominant middle who produced points on both sides of the ball. Her blocking was on point, and she turned nearly every set into a kill with smart placement and decision making. She brought toughness and consistency that helped keep the entire court in system.
Her ability to impact the game, offensively and defensively, made her one of the most reliable front-row athletes in the gym.

. Her presence at the net is becoming more dominant each time I see her play, and she is already showing true athleticism that will only grow as she gains more experience. ~ Michelle Bamford @Coachable247

, a 6’3” freshman middle blocker for Mater Dei High School, is already proving to be a dominant presence at the net. Through 51 sets, she has recorded 48 total blocks, including 8 solo and 40 block assists, averaging 0.9 blocks per set. Her size and timing allow her to control the middle, shutting down opposing hitters and forcing adjustments in offensive schemes. Smith’s production as a ninth grader highlights both her defensive instincts and her ability to convert length and athleticism into consistent results.
What sets Smith apart is her upside paired with early impact. She is training in a high-level environment that complements her development at Mater Dei, one of California’s premier programs. Her combination of height, mobility, and discipline makes her a rare freshman capable of influencing matches against top-tier competition. She will be competing for SC Rockstar 15s. For college coaches, Smith represents a high-ceiling middle who can anchor a defense, elevate her team’s blocking game, and grow into a reliable offensive weapon as her career progresses.
