Super Tuesday Delivers:Thrills, Shake Ups and an Upset
In this article:
Some days, you just pick the right games. We knew Tuesday night was going to be good, but it certainly didn't disappoint. Three of our five headliner matches went five sets, conference races tightened up, and Greenwood delivered a big upset in our Game of the Week.
Game of the Week: Greenwood 3, Farmington 2
Greenwood delivered one of the biggest upsets of Super Tuesday, ending Farmington's winning streak in a five-set thriller.
The two-and-a-half-hour drive was well worth it. Farmington provided a first-class setting, from its impressive arena to an outstanding pregame presentation. The atmosphere was everything you could ask for in a big-time high school volleyball matchup.
Greenwood came out firing, taking the first two sets before Farmington battled back to force a fifth. When Farmington took over in the third set, I didn't know if Greenwood could punch back. Farmington's depth was evident and some of the younger Greenwood players look dazed. But the Bulldogs took Farmington's best shots and regrouped in the deciding set and finished off the upset, 15-11.
The Cardinals certainly brought the offense.

is a fighter.
The Greenwood sophomore was relentless all night against a veteran Farmington front line featuring some of the best blockers in the state. She kept pounding away, refusing to back down.
As the fourth set wore on, Kaminshine looked a little tired and frustrated. But when the fifth started, she came out on fire. With Riley on the floor, Greenwood's offense just seemed to click. She delivered three kills in the deciding set to help the Bulldogs keep pace early and made some great digs along the way.

Cabot 3, Bryant 2
The 6A-Central heavyweight battle lived up to the billing. Cabot survived a five-set challenge from Bryant to pick up another important conference victory and maintain its lead in the 6A-Central. This was a back-and-forth battle from start to finish.

Brylee has played a lot of volleyball for Cabot and this had to be a highlight match for her to come up in such a big spot. She has amassed 414 kills and 212 digs over her three year career.

Conway 3, Little Rock Central 1
Conway took care of business against Central, winning in four sets to keep the pressure on Cabot in the 6A-Central race. The Lady Cats improved to 21-8 overall and 9-1 in conference play.
It was a balanced offensive effort for Conway, with four players recording at least eight kills.

Another solid team effort from a Conway squad that continues to show its depth. The Lady Cats have plenty of offensive options, and that balance will be important as they look to make another postseason run. Big game coming up with Bryant next Tuesday to keep pace with Cabot for the conference title.

continues her strong junior campaign, leading the Lady Cats in kills this season. The 6'1" pin has shown she's more than just a powerful hitter. She's becoming a more complete offensive player, using her size and developing shot selection to keep defenses guessing. As Porter refines her game and continues to raise her hitting percentage, she will rise on recruiting boards.
Porter led Conway with 10 kills against Central, another solid performance from a player who has become a reliable offensive weapon for the Lady Cats. Her continued development is a big reason Conway has remained near the top of the 6A-Central standings.

Two balanced, veteran teams went at it, and Benton found a way to get it done when it mattered most. This was a big road win for the Panthers, but there's no time to celebrate. Benton has another tough matchup tonight (Wednesday, October 14) against a red-hot Bauxite squad.
What a night for the young Panther pin. White came up big in Benton's five-set win, finishing with 21 kills, 2 aces, 1 block, 18 digs and 26 serve receptions.
That's a solid all-around performance in one of the biggest matches of the season. White provided plenty of offense while handling a heavy workload on the back row. The young hitter showed she can deliver in a big match against one of the better teams in 5A South. She is continuing to build as solid resume' this season.

, delivered with 9 kills and 4 blocks. That was the kind of production Greenbrier needed to slow down a powerful Belles attack and come away with a big win. The Panthers have continued to find ways to win despite dealing with injuries, and this was a solid victory over a very talented Mount squad. Greenbrier is atop the 5A-Central race, for now. As for Mount St. Mary, I fully expect the Belles to bounce back. There's too much talent and experience on that roster to count them out of the conference race. They face Sylvan Hills next to get back on track.
Aubrie had a solid game on the back row for the Panthers. She lead them in digs and serve receptions keeping the offense rolling with strong first ball contact. Aich also dropped in an ace to add to the scoring. Facing the powerful lineup Mount presents, you have to have a strong back row to keep them in check.
Season Stats: 77 sets | 35 aces | 175 digs | 345 receptions
Little Rock Christian 3, Pulaski Academy 2
The first meeting went four sets. This one needed all five. Little Rock Christian once again got the better of Pulaski Academy in another hard-fought 5A-Central matchup. The Warriors picked up an important victory as the conference race continues to take shape. I have not gotten stats on this one yet, but will update once I do!

The Road to Hot Springs
Tuesday gave us a little bit of everything. Cabot and Benton survived five-set tests, Conway kept pace, Little Rock Christian picked up another close win, and Greenbrier shook up the 5A-Central race.
Then there was Greenwood, delivering the night's biggest upset.
The regular season is winding down, but the volleyball is only getting better. If Tuesday was any indication, we're in for one heck of a postseason.
