It boasts high-end talent at the top and really good players throughout. Thinking about its future in the game and beyond is exciting.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Fortunately, these student-athletes have another prep season to shine. If you're a volleyball fan, seek out these kids if they're playing in your area. Schools travel around the state on Saturdays (and sometimes during the week) for competitive tournaments. They're fast-paced and fun with intriguing match-ups featuring super players. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Let's take closer look at members of the class. The Waterloo West star earned all-district honors last season and then took a step up in club competition this year by joining CIA. She operated through six rotations for that team, which qualified for the the USAV National Tournament this summer in Indianapolis. Jones has long been a problem for opponents when hammering away at the pin. She's increased her efficiency in that endeavor throughout the years and improved at defending up front. Where Jones has improved the most, however, is with her play in the back row. There no reason to sound the alarm. She will find the right home at a program that believes in her ability and potential to grow into more. Krecklow has been standing out as an impactful six-rotation performer for successful programs in club and at Cedar Falls for years. She makes up for a lack of height by exploding off of the court and generating a technically-sound, repeatable swing. Krecklow is smart, playing off of the block and finding holes in the defense. Harbour moves well in serve-receive, deadening pace and providing a settable pass. She tracks the ball well and consistently slides into proper position. Against the attack, the Ankeny senior flows well with the action, reading angles based on the block and closing holes the opposition might exploit. Harbour flashes quick reflexes and is fast laterally. I'm sticking with the label as a way of describing her unusual skill set. The high level of production led to her earning all-conference recognition last season. She shared the setting duties in the 6-2, where she also shined as a hammer at the pins. Cory ranked second on Cedar Rapids Kennedy with 228 kills (.208) and assists, while finishing third in digs and blocks. She must be accounted for no matter where she lines up on the court. That well-rounded set of skills stresses opponents. I think Cory could end up as an impactful setter on the next level. There's also a path to success at the opposite pin. Good Division III programs are interested. She would be super at that level, and it could be her best fit. She's one of those kids that's not the star but an important component to winning volleyball programs. Risk helped Ankeny reach the Class 5A state semifinals last season, ranking third among Hawks in blocks and fourth in kills, while hitting an efficient .257. She then played a key role in helping PowerPlex advance to the USAV National Tournament in the Open Division this summer. One of the best parts for a college giving Risk an opportunity is being able to utilize her versatility at a time when rosters are smaller. She can produce from any of the three front-row spots. It's a heavy swing that can terminate points. Explosion that leads to success there also aids her in throwing up an effective block.
