Williams is a rangy sophomore out of Capital High School. She tallied over 300 kills while hitting .294 during the school season. She is spending time as an outside hitter at times in both club and high school, this season at Capital her serve receive and dig numbers took a significant leap forward. It would be easy to see a permanent position change, her high attack point and size on the outside allows her to exploit smaller blockers both offensively and as an overpowering blocker.

Willsey is an under the radar prospect for many outside of the Yakima and Central Washington area. The Davis sophomore put the team on her back this season, and showed she can play defense as a 6 rotation middle. Davis smartly moved her around for swings all across the front line, she has solid power but is at her best turning the ball sharply to score.

Coleman was a consistent force for Jackson, posting over 200 kills and hitting .318. She works hard on the court, and is quicker than most middles she faces. In her last match of the season she went off with 18 kills against North Creek on 31 swings, throwing in 2 blocks and 2 aces for good measure. She made enormous progress from her freshman to sophomore year and should be on track to do so again in 2023.
The Puyallup sophomore was part of an excellent team, playing behind college level upperclassmen. She crushed the ball when given the opportunity, posting a .418 hitting percentage on the year. She should have a huge opportunity to show her strengths during this club season, and for the Vikings in 2023.

Middles contributions don’t always show up in the stats, Joffe made the most of her opportunities for Bellarmine Prep this season. Super active and quick, she hammered balls off the block, dropped in soft tips right over the top of blockers and racked up over 40 blocks on the season. Joffe should show huge growth playing for Athena this club season.

An excellent athlete who is just scratching the potential she has, Sneva flows in and out of transition easily and can hang in the air before hammering down a kill. She was very good winning jousts at the net this season, and should continue to increase her power as she gets older.

The Mead High School standout was part of a twin towers rotation with senior Danikah Johnson this season. Durgan is powerful offensively, especially on quick tempo sets. She has a hard approach and a fast arm, she moves quickly on the court and her suddenness surprises the opposing blockers. She will be part of an excellent Renovators U17 team, where she will be paired once again with her Mead setter Brielle Wilson. Durgan should be the first and best option on offense.
The second ranked middle in the class, Wiese is a tremendous blocker who makes opponents think twice when she is in the area. Offensively she takes an aggressive, hard approach and rips the ball to either corner. During the club season she worked hard on running the slide and running quicks with her Sudden Impact setters. Like most young, tall middles, Wiese has huge room for growth and a high ceiling.

It’s a distinct possibility that McGaughey may never play a college volleyball match, being a high major basketball prospect. If that is the case it’s unfortunate for volleyball fans. That means your best chance to see the Colfax middle operate is making your way to the Palouse or waiting to see the Bulldogs at the state tournament next fall. When I watched McGaughey against the best teams in 2B, and against larger schools at the Linda Sheridan Classic, she could not be stopped. She is long, coordinated, jumps out of the gym and does not move or swing like a volleyball player who has mainly focused on basketball. She finished with 20 kills in the state semi-final and posted another 20 in the final, before La Connor and CWU commit Ellie Marble Ellie Marble 6’0″ | OH La Conner | 2023 State WA won the match 3-1. Her progression over the course of the season as an attacker was special.
2022 was an excellent year for prep volleyball in Washington, a full club season was completed, and a much needed, quick break for the athletes and parents happened before the high school season started. Happy New Year to everyone who has been reading and has subscribed, the mission remains the same, help players become prospects!
