About Kaelin

How would you briefly describe your gameplay style?

Being a Freshman I'm still figuring out my style, but I think I'm a pretty versatile right side and also play setter. I can hit both line and cross, and I'm working on my blocking and defense too. My goal is to play all 6 rotations. I love the energy of the game and getting pumped up with it my teammates. I'm always trying to learn and improve and reached my goal of touching 9'8" this year.

Can you provide a brief description of your mentality or personality?

I like to have fun with my teammates, but I'm also very competitive and determined. I'm also learning to be a better leader both on and off the court. I love watching volleyball to learn how different players approach the game and apply those skills when I play. I'm always focused on getting better, up for a challenge and I'm not afraid to work hard.

Are you involved in any clubs, organizations, or have you received any non-sport awards?

I have been involved in many school-related activities: year book, student council, band (I play the saxophone) and the Diversity and Inclusion program at Magnificat. I won an essay contest for Knights of Columbus in 2024. I am a 2nd degree Black in Taekowndo (Korean martial arts) since 2017. I study ballet (9 years). I currently study en pointe (with point shoes).

What skills or qualities have you developed, such as leadership, teamwork, or community service?

I have developed skills in teaching/mentoring others, dependability/flexibility, building relationships, being a positive encourager. Community service: 1) packing Thanksgiving food boxes for in-need families 2) creating gift packages for LIFE Alzheimer’s patients/caregivers 3) Christmas boxes for Samaritan’s Purse 4)Fellowship of Christian Athletes CLE All Abilities Camp 2023.

Have you faced any significant challenges? If so, please describe.

I made the varsity team at Magnificat as a Freshman and started the first game of the season. I felt so much pressure, was super nervous and didn't do my best. During the season I went through some tough times and even sat the bench for a few games due to my inconsistent play. I worked hard to earn my way back to being on the starting lineup where we reached the Final 8 in Division I.

What type of college are you looking for?

I am looking for a college where I can build relationships with my professors and coaches and teammates in a culture that cares about my holistic growth as a woman - academically, athletically and spiritually. While my success is mostly determined by my effort, the guidance and wisdom shared by those more knowledgeable and experienced than I am is an invaluable part of that journey.

It starts with great four-step approaches to the net and developing power from the feet up. White played limited varsity action this past fall behind talented upperclassmen. That should pay dividends these next three years.
