Texas HS: Seven Lakes vs. Cinco Ranch

<p>District play is quickly progressing in the high school volleyball season in the state of Texas as in just two months from now we'll know the teams that will earn the right to compete at the State Tournament, where the champions will be crowned.</p>   <p>We, at Prep Dig, are excited to cover another season here in Texas and will try to be in as many matches as possible over the next two months to follow the journeys of the many rising stars in our state, providing coverage that includes articles, photos and social media highlights.</p>   <p>On Tuesday, October 1, we were in attendance in one the matches that concluded round one of district play in District 19, in Katy, with the Seven Lakes Spartans facing the Cinco Ranch Cougars.</p>   <figure class="wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter"><div class="wp-block-embed__wrapper"> https://x.com/grtorres/status/1841286276965646404 </div></figure>   <p>Cinco Ranch dropped a set for just the second time in district play, but recovered to produce a comeback and beat Seven Lakes 3-1 (22-25, 25-14, 25-20, 25-23) to continue as the only undefeated team in the district with nine wins, while also improving their season record to 24-5. Seven Lakes have 23 wins and nine losses this season and are currently in fifth place in district play, with five wins and four losses.</p>   <h2 class="wp-block-heading">Top Performers</h2>    <p class="text-gray-700">The senior outside hitter was once again Cinco Ranch's go-to scoring option and was there when her team needed her, carrying a huge offensive load in arguably their most challenging match in district play. Martinez used her power to beat blockers and defenders on most occasions, but also turned to tips and smart shots every once in a while, creating doubt across the net. Perhaps more important than her high-scoring volume was the fact that she delivered in critical moments of the match. Martinez also played an important role in serve-receive, efficiently handling the serves that went her way.</p>    <figure class="wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter"><div class="wp-block-embed__wrapper"> https://x.com/grtorres/status/1841276092709019894 </div></figure>    <p class="text-gray-700">The sophomore played with a lot of energy in the middle and her positive attitude and enthusiasm helped Cinco Ranch overcome difficult moments during the match. Kone was clearly very confident on the court and that positively impacted her offensive game as she got into a good scoring rhythm and contributed a lot to the team's attack by hitting different sets int he middle and converting them at a very high rate. Kone also did a good job with her blocking, getting stops in key moments of the match.</p>    <figure class="wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter"><div class="wp-block-embed__wrapper"> https://x.com/grtorres/status/1841275670992760981 </div></figure>    <p class="text-gray-700">The senior libero was possibly Cinco Ranch's most consistent player as her production remained steady throughout the entire match. Finnegan covered a lot of ground in serve-receive and was very efficient with her deliveries, accurately getting the ball into her setter's hand. The libero was also very active when playing defense on the backcourt and was particularly efficient when digging crosscourt swings from Seven Lakes' pin hitters. Teerman made strong contributions to Cinco Ranch's defensive game with her long and well-structured blocking, often forcing Seven Lakes' pin hitters to tip or hit angle, which allowed Finnegan to get many digs on the backcourt. She wasn't that big of a weapon offensively, having some ups and downs during the match, but was important by scoring some points in critical moments.</p>    <figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img src="https://prepdig.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/5/2024/10/IMG_8678.jpg?w=1024" alt="" class="wp-image-697357" /><figcaption class="wp-element-caption">Seven Lakes vs. Cinco Ranch</figcaption></figure>    <p class="text-gray-700">The senior setter did an excellent job running Seven Lakes' offense against a strong Cinco Ranch team. Kuehn tried to diversify her game as much as possible, but had a great reading on how each of her hitters was doing during the match and made great decisions with her distribution, leaving the court with 31 assists. She used her middles as much as she could and found in them viable scoring options when her pin hitters were oscillating. Hobin was solid in everything she did on the court and got to contribute on both sides of the ball, while also keeping her errors very low. She was very consistent on the backcourt, being very efficient in serve-receive (12 passes) and very active on defense (11 digs). Hobin also did a very good job at the net, being the team's second-best scorer with nine kills and just three errors in 37 swings.</p>    <figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img src="https://prepdig.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/5/2024/10/IMG_8608.jpg?w=1024" alt="" class="wp-image-697346" /><figcaption class="wp-element-caption">Seven Lakes vs. Cinco Ranch</figcaption></figure>    <p class="text-gray-700">It took a little while for the senior middle blocker to get going, but her game grew as the match progressed and made of her one of the top players on her team by the end. Wingate got into a strong offensive rhythm in the second half of the match and became one of the team's main scorers, ending the match with five kills.
