Caroline Crane Caroline Crane 6'0" | MB/RS Dowling Catholic | 2028 State IA was a terminator at the net, which should come as no surprise to anyone. Crane asserted her dominance throughout the tournament and played fearlessly at the net. The junior had head-turning kills mixed in with smart shots and big blocks. Not only did she get it done at the net, but she also racked up some aces of her own.

It’s not easy to lift yourself up multiple spots in the Top 20 once a class’s rankings have been established. However, Crane managed to do just that in the latest Prep Dig Iowa 2028 update. The Dowling Catholic junior jumped up five places to No. 11 overall. She dazzled the times I watched her during this club campaign, when she was one of the leading forces behind United’s drive to the USAV Nationals this summer in Indianapolis. Crane is a powerful, two-way right-side hitter that’s made great strides in the consistency of her attack. She’s reading the block better and finding holes in the defense. With the heaviness of her swing, opponents are left helpless when she’s on. Her block is getting better. Fresno State saw the upside and locked up her commitment.

Hopefully Crane is taking her time sifting through an attractive collection of college options. If she’s still available because programs on the next level aren’t pursuing her, that’s whacky. The Dowling Catholic and Iowa United Timmerman junior is a prototypical right-side hitter. It’s a lefty hammer from the opposite pin. She punishes opponents consistently on in-system sets. An explosive athlete with a strong vertical and long arms, Crane is an intimidating two-way performer that can lead an attack or throw up a block that stymies attackers challenging her. As productive as Crane already is, there’s a bunch of growth and development still available here, making her that much more attractive as a prospect.

I was first exposed to Crane’s volleyball talents when she competed at a Prep Dig showcase in Clive last spring. I watched her again with Dowling Catholic throughout the 2025 prep season. It was good to see her again in-person at the 2026 Nike President’s Day Classic in St. Louis. To say she was dominant would an understatement. Crane’s heavy hammer from the opposite pin pounded opponents all weekend during United 16-1 Elite Timmerman’s run to the open division gold bracket championship match. Crane has just steadily improved from that first scouting opportunity at the Horizon’s Center. She’s an explosive athlete with strength and agility. With ever-improving volleyball skills and technique, it all appears to be coming together for Crane on her journey to reaching a considerable ceiling.
