About Kaylie
Expert Analysis
Marissa Robertson | Prep Dig Scout
One of the biggest differences between the Klein sisters is their offensive gameplay. As I stated, Kennedy likes to utilize all of her options (like tipping, rolling, tooling, etc) to find those open shots. Likewise, Kaylie finds those same open spots on the court, but she can rip away like no other. Between her skill set, high IQ, and confidence in her game play, there are lots of times where she leaves me wondering, “How did she just find that spot and still manage to rip the ball?” and I’m sure I’m not the only one. She makes her transition to approach so quickly and effortlessly. Defensively, Kaylie does a phenomenal job of staying dominant on her block and assertive in the back row. The last thing that the Klein sisters both excel in is scrappiness. No matter where the ball is, they won’t hesitate to chase it down and lay out before letting it hit the floor.

Klein has stood out as one of the state’s better 2027s for years. I saw that again when watching her a few times during the high school season for Dowling Catholic after seeing her in the previous club campaign. The Santa Clara commitment was at it again for the latest in-person scouting opportunity, which happened at the Windy City National Qualifier during Easter weekend in Chicago. A combination of skills and versatility make her an asset to any team for which she competes. Klein was potent on the attack with a heavy swing from both pins. She ended plenty of points for PowerPlex playing in the Open Division. Klein has improved as an all-around defender working through six rotations. An improved blocker, she may have made even more growth in holding it down in the back row.

Klein got her feet wet during limited duty as a freshman in 2023. Last season, she broke out with a team-high 322 kills in 99 sets played. The junior is at it again in 2025, if an in-person scouting opportunity at the Westside Invite on Oct. 11 in Cedar Rapids was any indication. Klein has sharpened her skill set and become more consistent. She had produced 139 kills and 128 digs through her team’s first 72 sets, contributing through six rotations and impacting matches from all around the court. Klein is an explosive athlete with leaping ability and power in her swing. Her long hitting motion and vertical leap allow her to assess the defense and put the ball down into weak spots. Klein effectively picks her spots when hitting, whether that’s winning off of the block or working around it.
