This is the penultimate top 25 list for high schools in 2025 for the DC/Maryland/Virginia (DMV) area. The last ranking will occur after the state championships. This ranking focuses on the frosh who are making an impact on their team's appearance in the top 25. four teams dropped from the top 25 resulting in four new teams making the list. Records as of 10/19.

1 James Wood 22-1, LR 1 - Despite losing to North Hagerstown after our last ranking I could not find an acceptable alternative to place number one. They did sweep past 2024 Maryland Class 2A state champ Williamsport. Next week they have Millbrook and Kettle Run to end the season. James Wood carry two frosh on their varsity roster. [player_tooltip player_id='877848' first='Macie' last='Hewitt'] plays on the defensive specialist side. The Colonels do not use a libero. Macie is third in digs, third in service aces and third in receptions. [player_tooltip player_id='877850' first='Kennedi' last='Bower'] is also on the roster listed as a middle/right side. She ranks fourth on the team in kills.

2 Georgetown Day 13-1, LR 2 - Their only loss is against James Wood in the finals of the Endless Summer tournament. Since that loss they have not lost a set. Their next big match on the schedule will be against National Cathedral. They do have one frosh on their roster in [player_tooltip player_id='750050' first='Raquel' last='Telly']. She is the younger sister of [player_tooltip player_id='377396' first='Alexa' last='Telly']. Currently, Raquel is limited to back row play, serving enough to rank second on the team in aces per set. She is the third left side on the team hitting at a .244 hitting percentage, which is far below the starters [player_tooltip player_id='437985' first='Zora' last='Dimbo'] and [player_tooltip player_id='377396' first='Alexa' last='Telly']. As she gains experience that accuracy should improve.

3. Holy Cross 24-0-1, LR 4 - In the Tiger Paws tournament they split against Flint Hill in pool play, then defeated them in three in the championship bracket. If they had swept I would be more inclined to move them to number one. Their last three matches will come against the top three teams in the WCAC, Paul Vi (won in five), Bishop O'Connell and St. Johns. A sweep there could move them to number one. Frosh [player_tooltip player_id='753073' first='Aniston' last='Williams'] is contributing in the middle , ranking on top in blocks and second in hitting percentage. The pin hitters get most of the sets, but Aniston still ranks fourth on the team in kills.

4. Bishop O'Connell 18-0 LR 5 - They continue to win, sweeping all their opponents except St. Johns and Paul VI. A big match this weekend against Flint Hill (won in five), then next week against Holy Cross. They have three frosh on the varsity roster. [player_tooltip player_id='746506' first='Carolyn' last='Maria'] leads the team in kills and hitting percentage. She also sits second in blocks as well as assists and third in service aces. During the club season she earned the ranking of top prospect in the class of 2029. Her output during the high school season shows why. The two twins [player_tooltip player_id='755129' first='Lillian' last='Battcock'] and [player_tooltip player_id='755132' first='Abigail' last='Battcock'] rotate between middle and right side. Currently their offensive numbers are limited but Lillian sits third in blocks. The more they play the faster they improve. Both stand 6'2" and show great potential.

5 North Hagerstown 12-0, LR 17 - They made the biggest jump of any school. Their win over James Wood earned them that giant hop. They have also beaten state champions Boonsboro and just recently Class 2 state champion Williamsport. A win over Urbana adds to their quality wins. Quality and not quantity in schedule provides them with a gigantic leap in the rankings. Frosh [player_tooltip player_id='787919' first='Charlotte' last='Booth'] ranks second on the team in kills, providing an alternative to [player_tooltip player_id='303701' first='Caydence' last='Doolan']. Defensive specialist [player_tooltip player_id='895591' first='Aleah' last='Merrbaugh'] is contributing in the back row, ranking third on the team in digs. Middle/right side [player_tooltip player_id='895568' first='Payton' last='Sandridge'] and [player_tooltip player_id='889249' first='Margaret' last='Gatchalian'] are also getting some playing time.

6 Howard 17-0 LR 6 - Another team that keeps on plowing through their opponents. In their 17 wins they have only lost one set, to Mt. Hebron. A big match comes up against Broadneck next week. The Lions lack any frosh on their roster.

7 Colonial Forge 13-0, LR 8 - Another team who powers through their opponents. They had a bit of a struggle against their most recent opponent Massaponax, who took them to five. In their previous match against the Panthers they beat them in four. They have swept past every other opponent, except North Stafford, who took one set off them. Their schedule is almost complete. Two frosh appear on the roster in defensive specialist [player_tooltip player_id='879248' first='Paige' last='Stoll'] and middle blocker/right side [player_tooltip player_id='778444' first='Zari' last='Northam']. Zari has the athleticism and velocity to make an impact. Both were teammates at [program_tooltip program_id='489547' first='540' last='Volleyball Academy'].

8 Riverside 19-2 LR 7 - The Rams have gone on a 14 match win streak since their last loss to James Wood. Their next challenge should be when they reach the playoffs. With as much talent oozing from this roster finding playing time for a frosh would be difficult. However, the 6'0" middle [player_tooltip player_id='763151' first='Sydney' last='Lewis'] also brings tremendous potential to the court. Her playing time is limited but when she gets an opportunity, she shows off her potential. She should start next year with their two main starters at middle both graduating.

[player_tooltip player_id='747458' first='Angelie' last='Rose Carrasco']

9 Colgan 20-3, LR 3 - They stumbled a bit since the last ranking, losing matches to Oakton and Paul VI in the Flint Hill tournament. Since then, they have recovered, sweeping their last seven opponents, including Woodbridge who sits second in the Cardinal District. They have a big match against Patriot next week, who jumped into the top 25 this week. [player_tooltip player_id='747458' first='Angelie' last='Rose Carrasco'] earned a spot as the starting libero. She brings enthusiasm as well as consistency to her play to the court. It would not surprise me if she earned the top libero in the Cardinal District award. Outside [player_tooltip player_id='877852' first='Emiko' last='Koppers'] has not gotten a lot of playing time with [player_tooltip player_id='238593' first='Tehillah' last='Garrison'] and [player_tooltip player_id='550688' first='Sienna' last='Mitchell'] playing the pins. Her time could come next year after Tehillah graduates.

10 Kellam 15-3, LR 11 - Kellam has not lost since the Endless Summer tournament, when they lost to the top two teams James Wood and Georgetown Day. That is a nine match winning streak. Big conference matches against Cox and Ocean Lakes sit in the future. Earlier in the season they lost to Cox in five. That nine match win streak was almost broken by First Colonial. Kellam had to win the last two sets 25-19 and 16-14 to win the match. Because Virginia Beach teams do not have junior varsity teams there are a number of frosh named on their roster. None of them have made a major impact.

[player_tooltip player_id='748513' first='Scarlett' last='Netherton']

11. Annapolis Area Christian 20-2, LR 12 - Their only two losses occurred at the Endless Summer tournament against Kellam and Georgetown Day. They have won 15 matches in a row since then. The Eagles are favored to win the A bracket in the Interscholastic Athletic Association of Maryland (IAAN) that will be played this weekend.

They get the award for grabbing the most talented frosh in the Maryland area. It starts with their two outsides [player_tooltip player_id='748513' first='Scarlett' last='Netherton'] and [player_tooltip player_id='753070' first='Avery' last='Lettinga'], who are one/two in kills. At 5'9" Scarlett may be small but few players hit harder. Both play six rotations. As a frosh Scarlett in 2nd in the state in kills. They also carry [player_tooltip player_id='749642' first='Sophia' last='Groshek'] on the right side. She ranks third on the team in kills. Middle [player_tooltip player_id='748492' first='Paetyn' last='Brown'] leads the team in blocks while [player_tooltip player_id='762823' first='Brie' last='Mouton'] is second in assists. While Scarlett leads in digs, libero [player_tooltip player_id='748518' first='Harper' last='Walker'] ranks third. That is six frosh contributing to their starting lineup.

12. Midlothian 16-0, LR 14 - After sweeping 13 consecutive matches they finally lost a set to Glen Allen. They play St. Catherines next week, one of their three losses from last season as well as Deep Run the following week, who has only lost one match. They have no frosh on their roster.

13 Richard Montgomery 14-3, LR 10 - A recent loss to Wooten dropped them down a notch. They will probably see them again in the playoffs. While they have a few frosh sprinkled through their roster their contribution to the season has been limited. Middle/Opposite [player_tooltip player_id='763153' first='Jola' last='Abayomi'] is fifth on the team in blocks although she has only played in less than half the sets. [player_tooltip player_id='880142' first='Maya' last='Reichling'] has been contributing to the back row as a defensive specialist. [player_tooltip player_id='880147' first='Madison' last='Shieh'] has gotten some opportunities to set. She may fall into the second setter slot next season. [player_tooltip player_id='880139' first='Milena' last='Gjoni'] has seen some time as a right side. With sophomore [player_tooltip player_id='536719' first='Katherine' last='Mitchell'] sixth in the state in kills that forbodes well for the Rockets future.

14. Langley 16-4, LR 9 - A recent 5 set loss to Marshall hurt. It is their only loss to a team not ranked in our top 25. They also lost a five setter to Class 5 state champions Riverside. They only have one more match on their schedule. Langley has no frosh on their roster.

15, Paul VI 18-4, LR 13 - They lost two tough five setters to their conference rivals Holy Cross and Bishop O'Connell. The loss to Holy Cross is their second to them this season. They also lost to Flint Hill in the Flint Hill invitational tournament. Their next big matches will be the WCAC championship and the VISAA state championships. They have no frosh on their roster.

16. Courtland 19-1, LR 15 - Their only loss has been against Colgan in the Virginia Volleyball Showcase tournament. Since that loss they have strung together 16 wins in a row. They had one five setter against Massaponax but then swept them the second time they played them. Courtland lacks any roster information on their website.

17. Grafton 16-0, LR 20 - The Clippers keep on rolling. They have lost only one set in all their victories. The state playoffs will be their big test where they have been in the finals for eight consecutive years but have yet to win a championship. [player_tooltip player_id='883712' first='Alivia' last='Breckons'], the younger sister of senior [player_tooltip player_id='465315' first='Ana' last='Breckons'] has been killing it as an outside hitter, third on the team in kills. She also ranks third in blocks as well as service aces and second in digs. [player_tooltip player_id='895572' first='Izzy' last='Scimeca'] has also been contributing as a middle/right side. She ranks fourth on the team in blocks.

18. Christiansburg 19-0, LR NR - They have now beaten the defending Class 3 state champion Hidden Valley twice. The Blue Demons last 12 match victories have come without losing a set. Only two more matches remain on their schedule. The one frosh they have on the varsity is setter [player_tooltip player_id='895573' first='Piper' last='Lytton']. She acts as the third setter and has seen little playing time so far this season. She should fill in next year after [player_tooltip player_id='495264' first='Ela' last='Shepherd'] graduates.

19. James Madison 20-3-1, LR 18 - The Warhawks were upset by South Lakes during their first meeting. They bounced back to beat them in their second outing. Since the loss to South Lakes they have won their last 14 matches, except for one tie with Woodbridge. In their conference every team but South Lakes has a losing record. The Warhawks have no frosh on their varsity roster.

20. West Springfield 20-2, LR NR - The Spartans were recently upset by Yorktown in a tournament. Until that time their only loss had been against Langley. Only two more matches are left on their schedule. To date, no victories over top ranked teams. They carry no frosh on their roster.

21 Broadneck 12-2, LR 16 - The Bruins only two losses have been against the 10th ranked Annapolis Area Christian and the West Virginia powerhouse Musselman. Since the loss to Musselman they have won their next four matches, including a five setter to Arundel. They have a big match against Howard on Tuesday. With five frosh on their varsity roster at least three should be having an impact on the club. Those three would include 6'0" middle [player_tooltip player_id='766895' first='Neely' last='Olish'], middle/right side [player_tooltip player_id='747047' first='Ella' last='Luscomb'] and her sister ds/setter [player_tooltip player_id='750053' first='Alexis' last='Luscomb']. They also have on the roster frosh ds [player_tooltip player_id='878991' first='Julie' last='Wagner'] and outside/opposite [player_tooltip player_id='787925' first='Camryn' last='Bedell']. Unfortunately, I have not had a chance to see them play yet.

22. Kettle Run 18-1, LR 24 - They had big wins over previously ranked Millbrook and Sherando. Sherando had beaten them earlier in the year. Later this week they have a big match against number one James Wood. The Cougars have no frosh on their varsity roster.

23. Stonebridge 32-0, LR 25 - One could argue that the Cavaliers schedule is not that strong. All but one of their matches have ended in sweeps. They have swept Chelsea Academy twice, which is perhaps their strongest opponent on their schedule. Next on their agenda is the VISSA Division II state championships where last year they lost in the finals to The Covenant School. They have no frosh on their varsity roster.

24. Patriot 19-3, LR NR - The Pioneers lost three of their first four matches, two of them to ranked teams Langley and Riverside. Since then, they have romped to an 18 match winning streak. Their next and last match of the season before the playoffs start will be against Colgan. They carry no frosh on their varsity roster.

25. Fort Defiance 19-0, LR NR - Last year the Indians made it to the finals in the Class 2 Virginia state championships. It was only their third loss of the season. This year they may enter the state championships undefeated. The leader of that offense is senior [player_tooltip player_id='720606' first='Maecy' last='Frizzelle'] who ranks number 126 in our class of 2026. The one frosh on their roster is defensive specialist [player_tooltip player_id='895576' first='Abbi' last='Bright']. Currently she is a role player.

On the bubble - The Covenant School (19-1), Deep Run (13-1), Calvert (11-1), Wootten (12-1), South Lakes (14-1)

Dropped off top 25 - Frank Cox (15-5), Ocean Lakes (14-5), Glenelg (9-3), Millbrook (16-2),
