About Marie

How would you briefly describe your gameplay style?

I pride myself on my reaction time and speed to save a ball during defense. I enjoy playing middle back on defense. On offense, I am not afraid to attack the ball, but have an eye for the court to make smart decisions on placing the ball in open areas with a tip or roll shot.

Can you provide a brief description of your mentality or personality?

I am encouraging, and a good team player. I like to be silly and have fun with my teammates, but when it is time to play, I like to lead by example and come prepared mentally and physically to leave it all on the court.

Are you involved in any clubs, organizations, or have you received any non-sport awards?

I have been playing for Vegas United Volleyball Club the past 3 years. Academically, I have been apart of Student Leadership and the National Junior Honor Society my 7th and 8th grade year. I have been on the “A” Honor roll the past 3 years.

What skills or qualities have you developed, such as leadership, teamwork, or community service?

I volunteer at my church once a month with the children’s ministry (2nd - 5th grade) students, and it has taught to be patient, to take time to listen, and be kind. Many times we get new kids who come and they are afraid to participate so I take the time to make them feel welcomed and comfortable. Volunteering has helped me learn that you can accomplish so much more with a group than by yourself.

Have you faced any significant challenges? If so, please describe.

I have been blessed overall, but my challenges have been overcoming doubt in my play and self. I would get in my head if I made mistakes one after the other, but I have been learning that my confidence comes from preparation and practice and that helps make the self doubt go away. I also have great family, Coaches and teammates who support me to also help build confidence.
