JVA Nationals Preview: TPV 16 Maverick Overview

<!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>This loaded team has a good mixture of everything from solid first touches to quality sets, size and powerful swings.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>TPV Director Dan Dierking is the head coach of this team that is 44-12 on the season. The squad has won three tournaments this season.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>The team features three Franklin teammates in juniors [player_tooltip player_id='751227' first='Maggie' last='Myhr'] at libero, setter and Auburn commit [player_tooltip player_id='939795' first='Emmy' last='Garner'] and outside hitter [player_tooltip player_id='946580' first='Ellyson' last='Fogle']. two more liberos are Hillsboro junior [player_tooltip player_id='745125' first='Loretta' last='Duby'] and Ensworth junior [player_tooltip player_id='997427' first='Brynn' last='Jackson']. Hume-Fogg junior [player_tooltip player_id='997426' first='Cassie' last='Gambill'] sets and plays defensive specialist.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>The team is loaded at the hitter spots starting with 6-3 Centennial junior [player_tooltip player_id='818827' first='Shaun' last='Waller'] and Independence junor [player_tooltip player_id='826577' first='Jorden' last='Robinson'] in the middle. Bowling Green junior [player_tooltip player_id='577773' first='Chayse' last='Gilliland'] gives the team power in the middle and pins with Ravenwood junior [player_tooltip player_id='961442' first='Clara' last='Leister'] also taking big swings from the pins. David Lipscomb lefty [player_tooltip player_id='946581' first='Maeryn' last='Pettit'] gives the team a good option on the opposite side. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Some others such as Bowling Green sophomore [player_tooltip player_id='774363' first='Hadley' last='Beard'] have recently joined the team. She always goes up with a purpose, attacking seams and holes in double blocks with great precision. Pettit comes in hard off fakes and pounds balls to open spots on the court. Pettit is not afraid to angle balls off blocks and takes quality out of system swings. She sends slides and gap shots screaming to the left side lines. Robinson mixes in soft off shots if defensive specialists are playing back. Robinson rises up with her good vertically to quickly attack balls before double blocks form. Robinson is also an aggressive blocker. Fogle consistently takes advantage of fakes with a dynamic setter. She comes in hard off the fakes and pounds out hard line shots and crosses. Fogle often beats double blocks before they form. She takes solid swings from the back row to give 16 Maberick an added dimension. On defense, Fogle makes crisp passes in the back row. She can dive to make pancake digs if needed. Gambill does not bend her arms on sets and does the back set with no lean. Gambill makes the most of out of system balls trying to put hitters in position to terminate balls. Gambill patrols the back row with authority. She has quick reflexes. She only leans when needed, yet stays under control. Gambill executes both overhead and bump passes with precision. Jackson covers a lot of ground quickly with her range and reflexes. She is consistent on both serve reception and first touches. Jackson has a strong, steady platform and keeps her body squared to targets to help jumpstart the offensive rhythm. Jackson also provides sound net defense.
