RVA Roots 15U Gladden turned a No. 2 seed in its Saturday pool into a USAV Nationals Freedom Division bid during the Iowa Regionals in late March. The team lost its first match of the weekend and two of its first three competitions but managed to fight back into the challenge round and, eventually, the gold bracket. Markway was at the controls, adjusting to passes of all kinds and keeping the system in sync. She mixed up her offerings effectively and made great decisions on where to go with the ball. Markway’s attackers looked comfortable with the sets she provided, helping increase efficiency. Not the tallest player at her position, she jumps well to defend at the net and moves well laterally to do the same in the back row. Markway is sound in serve-receive.
