They are playing TAV Houston. Those Texas teams are always tough to beat, although in the first set Metro handled them well 25-9. The second set was a nail biter if you were a parent. While Metro thought they carried a comfortable 22-18 lead in the second set, no lead is comfortable in Open. TAV Houston battled back to pull within one 24-23.

With a beautiful pass everyone was expecting a set to one of Metro’s bangers on the left side. However, Abigail Chang Abigail Chang 5'9" | S/DS/L Home School | 2030 VA had other ideas and flipped back a meaty backset to Jordin Guthrie Jordin Guthrie 5'11" | RS/OH South County | 2030 VA . She tooled it off the block for a 25-23 set and match win.

For Metro Jordin rotates between right side and middle, but she can also play left. In the set that I watched she put up a couple good blocks in the middle that rallied Metro to a win over Blue Ridge . It just so happens that the talent level on the left side is just a bit crowded for Metro. Fortunately for Jordin, that versatility to play multiple positions creates opportunities for her in high school.

South County had a rough season last year. With her Metro counterpart occupying one left side Jordin could have an opportunity to win the second left side. If not that there is always right side or a middle.
