About Katherine

How would you briefly describe your gameplay style?

My coaches say that I have one of the highest volleyball IQ's they have coached. As a DS/L (who also plays setter), I attack the game from a strategic perspective. What tendencies can I uncover quickly, where is my opponents weaknesses, how does a player react to a certain play and how can I use that to our team's advantage. This obviously needs to be done in split seconds, but it's what I do!!

Are you involved in any clubs, organizations, or have you received any non-sport awards?

I started a non-profit charity club at my school called Off the Streets NDA where we help a larger parent organization to provide furnishings for people who have recently been homeless but now have a place to live. I received a Youth of the Year award from the Ohio Knights of Columbus. In my "free time" I also participate on a mountain bike club called Black Swamp Riders.

What skills or qualities have you developed, such as leadership, teamwork, or community service?

Volleyball has definitely helped me develop strong leadership skills, but teamwork and how to tackle adversity are also very important qualities that any sport provide.

Have you faced any significant challenges? If so, please describe.

Every player has challenges, we all just face them differently, so it's hard for me to say mine are more significant than others. But really just trying to balance academics, non-sport extra curricular with high level volleyball has always been a challenge.

What type of college are you looking for?

High Academic/Academically focused program. My plan is to attend medical school (forensic pathology), so I want a program that is used to supporting their athletes who are in academically challenging fields of study.
