Yet another of a long line of DS and libero prospects to come out of Yorktown, Vivian recently earned an All-Star nod from us at the Top 250 Expo less than two weeks ago. Her feet constantly move while her platform is stable, and is rarely caught out of position prior to contact. I like the consistency and no-nonsense attitude she brings to the passing skill, and should compete for the libero jersey on the Mustangs (16-1) this spring.

You can’t really talk about DS’s unless a Yorktown (Libero High School?) kid is mentioned. Vivian, like a LOT of liberi that come through the halls of Yorktown, has active feet, a calm platform, and a relentless pursuit of perfection. Constantly and consistently working with her fellow floor mates, Miss Stevenson was in on a ton of passes while owning half the floor in serve receive regularly. That Munciana ball control training shone through on Saturday, and will be her calling card in her future recruitment.

Stevenson stood out to me right away simply because of her confidence on the floor. She wasn’t being shy or backing away from anything and she was taking control of the defense from the start. I would have never guessed she was just a sophomore! Now that I know she is a Yorktown HS player and a member of the Munciana16-1 squad, I am not surprised in her exceptional ability to read and react to opposing hitters, as well as having great fundamentals in serve receive. The last part of Vivian’s game that made her stand out from the other DS’s for me was her ability to take aggressive swings from the back row and hit smart shots – she sees the floor really well, which is a sign of a great defender who understands defensive schemes.
