“Nothing hits the floor without maximum effort.”
That is how Leah Miles describes her approach to defense.
One rally from this weekend captured that mindset perfectly.
The sequence included multiple digs, two second-ball contacts, a scramble play near the net, and one final diving effort to keep the rally alive. The point eventually went the other way, but that was never really the point of the story.
The rally reflected exactly how Leah sees the game.
Every ball is worth chasing. Every point is worth fighting for. Every opportunity to extend a rally matters.
Leah is only in her second season as a libero after previously playing six-rotation outside hitter, but she already speaks about defense with a maturity beyond her years. Film sessions, private lessons, practices, clinics, and support from her coaches and family have all played a role in her development.
The work is showing up.
This summer includes camps at Utah, USC, and Cal Poly Pomona, but Nationals may be what excites her most. Her team earned a National Division bid, the highest division her club has ever reached.
For a player who loves competing and extending rallies, that stage feels like a perfect fit.

continues to establish herself as one of the most impactful libs in her class with the way she completely anchors the back row. In a class that is passer heavy, she still finds a way to stand out. She’s the type of defender who changes the energy of a team through her relentless motor, advanced reads, and ability to keep plays alive that seem impossible to recover. Every time we watch her compete, she finds ways to make her presence felt.
What stands out most about Leah is her consistency and composure. Whether she’s handling tough serve receive pressure or digging high-powered attacks, she remains calm, controlled, and dependable in every moment.
She’s a true difference-maker in the back court and someone we fully expect to continue making major noise as her career progresses.

Leah’s defense this weekend was absolutely electric. It was nearly impossible to take your eyes off her during a match because she consistently found ways to impact the play. Her presence in the back row made a huge difference, and her level of performance was a major factor in her team finishing on top this weekend.
In serve receive, Leah was rock solid — delivering clean, controlled passes that kept her team running smoothly. Defensively, she never let up. Her motor was nonstop, even going as far as taking down some signage while chasing a ball to keep the rally alive. That kind of effort perfectly captures the grit and tenacity she brings every time she steps on the court.
Leah plays fearless, with a relentless willingness to do whatever it takes to help her team win. Simply put, every team needs a player like Leah anchoring their defense.
