Nalani is an exciting player to watch! She can throw it down and is fast and explosive on the court! She has a quick swing and racks up points with kills that will bring the opposition to their knees. She is called upon often and delivers, she transitions fast off the net and her attack is quick. She gets on top of the balls and drives it down finding the seams and getting great contact. Nalani has a super timing and reach with her block and can stuff one! She shows excellent technique and readiness at the net and moves easily up and down the net reading the setter well. She is enthusiastic on the court and covers her teammates well. Derringer does a good job going up, using a quick arm swing then drilling balls to the ground. Derringer said her vertical reach hits 9 feet, 11 inches allowing her to quickly hit balls passed solid blockers. Derringer is also a hustler on defense consistently making big digs to keep plays alive.

Her athleticism is jaw-dropping—she can jump out of the gym—and her arm swing is equally impressive, with a high elbow and quick snap that deliver devastating attacks. What sets Derringer apart is her ability to make smart decisions even on less-than-ideal sets. Instead of swinging wildly, she adjusts and finds a way to score. Her speed and agility at the net make her a blocking machine, closing gaps with ease and making life difficult for opposing hitters. Derringer’s quickness allows her setter to run low, fast-paced sets, which will be nearly impossible for defenders to stop. As she develops her skills at Mercy Academy and with Union Volleyball Club, the sky is truly the limit for this rising star.
