The Emerald City Classic tournament is back for its 35th year! The University of Washington hosts some of the top volleyball teams from Oregon, Washington, and northern Idaho, and PrepDig was lucky enough to see them in action.
Below are a handful of middles that caught our attention over the course of the second day.
Carley-Boxley is an incredibly athletic middle-blocker. She is explosive, getting off the floor quickly with a massive vertical jump. When watching the WVBA 15-1 team play, she had some electrifying kills and wasn’t afraid to swing in a very close 3rd set. She oozes potential, and only being a class of 2026 athlete, she will be a fun one to watch develop over the next few years.
Highlights
Carrol has shown tons of improvement this club season with Athena 16-1 and her play at ECC was a testament to that. She hits the slide with ferocity, I watched her obliterate the ball down the line play after play. She comes in aggressive for the quick, making herself available to the setters. Her blocking is productive, using her height to seal with the net.
Highlights
Coleman was an offensive threat for the SIVBC 15-1 team as a middle. She is super athletic and has some serious hops. When attacking, she racked up kills swinging to the deep corner, and mixed it up with a well placed tip. She can also execute a slide well. From the service line, she brought a tough jump serve which garnered lots of aces.
Highlights
I wasn’t too sure where to put Marrs, because she literally did it all for the CRU 16-1 team. Although when in the front row she primarily hits from the middle, she also played the back row, and swung as an outside for a rotation. She is 6’4”, so her height right off the bat was impressive. But she is athletic, and moved around the court really well. She wasn’t afraid to hit the floor to save a ball. Marrs is definitely an athlete to keep your eyes on, she is sure to be a sought after recruit.
Highlights
Schaaf was an imposing threat for the OJVA 15-1 team, both offensively and defensively. Hitting a multitude of sets, she figured out how to score and contribute. At 6’2” she is very long and athletic, she moved well along the net, and got herself involved in most defensive plays. Schaaf shows tons of potential and will be a fun one to watch over the next few seasons.
Highlights
Sinai has skyrocketed in terms of improvement this season with OJVA 16-1. With this being her second season of volleyball, it has been so impressive to watch how quickly she has picked up the game. Still really raw, she has lots of untapped potential. On day 3 of play, she had the most thrilling 8-ft line kill that created tons of momentum for the team.
Slavik immediately stood out on the WVBA 15-1 team due to her height (6’2”) and athleticism. She had some solid quick tempo kills, seeing the hole in the block and swinging away. Her blocking is productive, with good lateral movement and a long reach across the net. Only a class of 2026, she will be an athlete to keep an eye on over the next couple of seasons!
Highlights
Wiese is as physical and athletic as they come. With an aggressive approach and a quick arm, she obliterates the ball left and right. She played with a ton of confidence, taking big swings at big moments in the match. As the #2 middle in the state, there is no question she will be a highly sought after 2025 recruit.
