The Great Plains Region boasts innumerable impactful liberos, and many of them converge at the UBT Sports Complex for the annual Midwest Power League. Last weekend ushered in the first weekend of the multi-part series, giving us plenty of stout defenders for our recruiting radar.

We've already covered setters, pin hitters, and a handful of upstart freshmen. Now, we're moving into the backcourt.

We're starting with a team and libero that dominated The Courts en route to a 17/18 Club division title. Wemhoff was the unquestioned defensive leader for [program_tooltip program_id='428743' first='VCNebraska' last=''] 17 Black and produced her most clutch moments in high-pressure situations. Her highlight film from the event reveals Wemhoff's incredible instincts and willingness to step in front of passers in serve receive. The Lincoln Pius X standout is shouldering an expanded role this year after VCN shuffled many of its libero lineups in the 17s age group. Wemhoff is ready for the challenge.

This feature is bound to be full of multi-position standouts who are more than just defensive juggernauts. Uhrmacher fits this description, as she boasts plenty of experience as a six-rotation attacker for Aurora High School. That narrative changes when she dons the Nebraska Juniors libero jersey and showcases her extraordinary effort in the back row. Uhrmacher filled her Power League film with sprawling saves and clutch passes to set up 17 Black's offense. Look out for Uhrmacher's balanced squad on the national stage.

We know that [program_tooltip program_id='428717' first='Nebraska' last='ONE'] 16 Black boasts a ton of new additions to this year's lineup, but Schuerman is a vital constant in the back row. We were astounded by Schuerman's defensive leadership when she competed with 15 Black last spring--even as she played various other positions with Wilber-Clatonia. This versatile sophomore has resumed her libero duties with 16 Black in 2025 and brings her well-rounded skill set to the contrasting jersey. Even if she's not getting the first contact, Schuerman can step in and deliver dimes as a secondary setter.

Mark down another standout from the Nebraska Juniors camp. Ward has previously been a star at our Prep Dig Showcase events, but her performance at the Midwest Power League has raised her stock further. Teams had to swing away from Ward to find any offensive success. This Lincoln East prep athlete was impenetrable in the crosscourt and could also read off-speed shots down the line. 16 Black's 16 Open triumph was no fluke.

Schroeder has been thriving on the Power League stage for a while, so her inclusion here is no surprise. We like to talk about Nebraska Elite 16 Apex's frontcourt riches, but those players can also trust Schroeder to put them in favorable situations. The Bennington sophomore is a natural passer who can adjust her platform to balls drifting outside her midline. Schroeder has expanded her repertoire in floor defense and will prevent anything from dropping in the campfire. Another qualifier push is on the way.

Jacobson remains the commander of Premier Nebraska 16 Black's end line. She earned several accolades as the libero on last year's 15 Black squad, which found national success early and often. Jacobson took another step forward as an impact player for Millard South in her second year with the school. This culminates in another breakout Power League performance for one of Nebraska's top 2027 liberos. Jacobson's rise continues.

Brewer continues to transform her scouting report as she competes with [program_tooltip program_id='428728' first='River' last='City Jrs'] 16 Navy. We've seen her take over matches as an all-around outside hitter, but last weekend's Power League showed what she can do as the leading libero. Brewer's left-side attacker experience made her a natural fit for the middle-back area, where she took up tons of court as a floor defender. Her passing also aided the success of 16 Navy's attackers, making this one of the most balanced squads in the 16 Open pool.
