High-Energy Prospects at Houston Freshman Showcase

The high school volleyball season is quickly approaching in the state of Texas, and on Sunday, we from Prep Dig Texas had a fantastic opportunity to see first-hand some of the talented prospects who are set to start their high school careers over the next few weeks.   Our traditional Prep Dig Freshman Showcase made it to Houston, with dozens of the best class of 2029 players from H-Town and beyond getting together for two hours of fast-paced drills at the [program_tooltip program_id='462263' first='TAV' last='Houston'] facility.   It was a privilege to have the opportunity to get a sneak peek at the prospects we'll be covering for the next four years and there was a lot of talent on display on the court.   We're taking the week to feature some of the players who stood out in our showcase, and in today's article, we'll feature the prospects who, in addition to displaying solid skills, also brought the energy to the court:    Valdez displayed a great attitude during the event, always being ready to step into whatever position an extra body was needed and delivering what was needed there. I saw her play in all three positions at the net and she did well in all of them, always performing with a high intensity level. Valdez was also able to do it because of her solid all-around game, which allowed her to play different roles at a good level. She was also very vocal and positive on the court, consistently communicating with her teammates and celebrating every point.     A libero, Stanford was hard to overlook on the backcourt because of her incredible determination. She played with a lot of energy, chasing every ball that went near her and displaying excellent ball control to perform some nice digs and stand out in serve-receive. Stanford was also very engaged with all that happened on the court and she would keep talking and cheering on other players even when she was on the sidelines in a drill. The libero also had one of the best serves in the gym and consistently got the players across the net in trouble with her floater.     Laney was another player who filled different positions and showed great ability to adapt and deliver what was needed. She was primarily an outside hitter, but also stepped up to play middle and left some court coaches wondering if that wasn't her original position because of how well she performed. Laney used her length very well at the net and proved to be an interesting two-way player, offering a lot offensively and also contributing with her blocking. She also handled well the serves that went her way.     Cordaway-Dreier was one of the most impressive liberos in the event. Also a standout beach volleyball player, she was electric on the backcourt and performed some really impressive digs, displaying excellent positioning and ball control. Cordaway-Dreier didn't hesitate for a split second if she had to go to the floor and did an excellent job of keeping the ball alive as much as she could. She was also very vocal and immediately established efficient communication with the players around her on the backcourt.
