Latest 2028 Watch List: Five Setters to Pay Attention to

These five setters are spread throughout the Commonwealth as participation numbers have hit an all-time high. They should be on a short list to look out for it they are not already.    Lowman (pictured) does a great job distributing balls in the high-octane Ashland offense. Lowman consistently reads blocking and defensive schemes well then makes the right decisions. Lowman has a jump set to put extra power into sets and let Ashland's 6-0 and 5-11 middles smack balls at the peeks of their vertical jumps. Lowman sets her feet to deliver quality short and long sets both in and out of system. Lowman mixes in setovers well. She also puts up nice double blocks, makes crisp first touches and delivers sound line drive serves.     The Eagles may take some lumps this year, but players like Hall will benefit from them. Hall is extremely versatile and the Ohio County coaching staff is trying hard to take advantage of it. Hall has been working on involving a number of hitters with both short and long sets. Hall looks toward her hitters as if she'll set then puts balls over on second hits in different ways. Hall will push balls to the middle of the court and back set balls toward the right lines in zone one. Hall also does a good job serving, forming sound blocks and making first contacts. Hall has 410 assists, 133 digs, 124 kills, 46 aces, 25 solo and nine assisted blocks for Ohio County thus far.     Wright has used her experience to help the Blackcats win four of their last six games including one over Johnson Central. Wright knows where her hitters like balls and does what she can to hit the targets so they put good power into balls. Wright makes nice first touches and is not afraid to push balls over on second hits to surprise defenses. Wright will be more effective with work on her setting speed.     Curry puts out a variety of short and long sets to different hitters, including back sets. Curry sends balls back toward the net so hitters can take more effective swings. Curry also hustles on defense making one-armed saves when necessary. Curry also makes things happen on first touches and serving. Curry has 329 assists, 109 digs and 30 aces on the season for the Bulldogs.     Monroe is playing more of an outside hitter role during high school ball with two seniors taking care of the setting for Henry County, but Monroe is a candidate to move into that role next season. Her hitting experience could more than come in handy in the future. Monroe can pound balls to the back row and off blockers. Monroe has good crosses and is able to tap balls to the shallow one away from defenders. Monroe also makes crisp first passes.
