Most of our in-season high school coverage aims to cover a large geographical spread. The Cornhusker State offers a wide expanse of stars to cover from the Missouri River to the panhandle. However, we're occasionally inspired to get hyper-local and narrow our focus. This is one of those times.

Nebraska's capital city is my lifelong stomping grounds, so I'm always partial to Lincoln's emerging volleyball talent. The 2025 season has already given us plenty of breakout attackers from the Star City--enough to highlight a few of them here.

We've watched Case do a little of everything during her prep career. She has been a game-changer as an attacker and a defender, or both at the same time. [program_tooltip program_id='428717' first='Nebraska' last='ONE'] has taken full advantage of Case's versatility during the club season, and now Lincoln High is doing the same on the prep side. Case leads the Links with 2.6 kills per set while also anchoring the defense with nearly three digs per set. This savvy senior will be a staple of Lincoln High's operation this year while providing guidance for the team's collection of younger athletes.

The Bellevue West Invite gave us a firsthand look at several new faces in the Lincoln East lineup, but the Spartans still have several veteran leaders to lean on. Plas has carried the senior banner for this group and is averaging 3.6 kills per set through East's first several contests. She played an influential role in pushing the Spartans through a five-set slugfest with cross-town rival Lincoln Southwest. Plas is battle-tested after a tough early-season schedule and will keep making gains in her swan song season.

We'll lump Norris into the greater Lincoln metro, especially given Bornschlegl's dominant start with the Titans. The defending champions are off to an 8-0 start with Bornschlegl terminating five times per set on a shocking 0.503 clip. Norris has increasingly wielded Bornschlegl in a six-rotation capacity, as evidenced by her dig total that ranks second on the team. Of course, Bornschlegl has also established herself as an attacking threat behind the three-meter line, too. It's all coming together for another Class B title push.

Our recent feature on undefeated teams alluded to Lauenstein's big uptick in production for Waverly. She has put down 81 kills in 20 sets for the Vikings and is hitting nearly 0.300 despite a ton of attacking volume. Lauenstein's quickness and athleticism have translated to other areas of her game, upgrading Waverly's ball control in any rotation. The Vikings are heading into a pivotal stretch of their schedule with multiple Class B frontrunners on the docket. Lauenstein is ready for it.

Vohland was already a trendsetter for Lincoln Northeast as a sophomore, but she has upgraded her game further while rising to upperclassman status. The Rockets are blasting off to a successful start behind Vohland's 2.7 kills per set and another three digs per set from the back row. She's a rare athlete who can command either pin position while also patrolling the end line like a defensive specialist. Her club work with [program_tooltip program_id='428743' first='VCNebraska' last=''] has brought her skills as an opposite to the forefront, but Vohland can also operate on the left for LNE.

Schmidt has joined several of her [program_tooltip program_id='428717' first='Nebraska' last='ONE'] co-conspirators on a stacked Lincoln North Star squad, and the year-round cohesion has produced fabulous results. The 'Gators are still undefeated, and Schmidt boasts 3.6 kills per set for North Star's formidable offense. Summer momentum is paying off after Schmidt and her [program_tooltip program_id='428717' first='Nebraska' last='ONE'] team trekked to Texas for USAV Nationals. Another postseason excursion could be looming this November.

Even the sophomores are embracing leadership roles in the Star City. Bauer, who has been a go-to middle blocker in the [program_tooltip program_id='428743' first='VCNebraska' last=''] gym, is pacing Lincoln Southeast's offense as a pin hitter this fall. The move allows Bauer to pile up as many swings as possible, and she's paying that off with 4.2 kills per set on a sky-high 0.276 attacking percentage. This top-ranked 2028 prospect has the length and reach to dominate at the net regardless of which position she's playing. We're about to see several examples of that as Bauer competes with the Knights.
