Let's keep piling up the W's.

We recently covered a handful of Class A, B, and C1 teams starting the year strong with no blemishes in the loss column. Of course, this was far from an all-encompassing glimpse at Nebraska's top-performing teams through two weeks of play. We're back for Part 2 to bring Class C2, D1, and D2 into the spotlight.

Championship contenders are already emerging.

Norfolk Catholic

The Knights were tabbed as our preseason favorite in Class C2, and they've lived up to the billing so far.

Norfolk Catholic has tallied wins over an eye-popping list of championship contenders from Class C2 and beyond: Guardian Angels Central Catholic, Pierce, Columbus Lakeview, David City, and more. The Knights have not shied away from any challenge and have banked a gaudy amount of wildcard points throughout the journey.

Superstar senior [player_tooltip player_id='275961' first='Sidonia' last='Wattier'] has reassumed her familiar setter role with 2.2 kills per set and nearly 200 total assists through six matches. She also leads the efficiency metric with an extraordinary 0.410 clip. [player_tooltip player_id='737410' first='Ava' last='Wemhoff'] and [player_tooltip player_id='276203' first='Anslee' last='Watters'] perpetuate Norfolk Catholic's offensive onslaught in any rotation. This firepower is backed up by sophomore [player_tooltip player_id='730564' first='Reese' last='Timmerman']'s colossal dig totals as the Knight libero.

It's early, but this is the C2 squad to beat.

Laurel-Concord-Coleridge

Laurel-Concord-Coleridge has been on the cusp of a postseason breakthrough for a while, and 2025 could be the time to take the next step.

Junior standout [player_tooltip player_id='809847' first='Rena' last='Rasmussen'] has reintroduced herself to the small-town scene with five kills per set on a 0.328 clip to lead the Bears. Her dominance has also opened up opportunities for [player_tooltip player_id='833522' first='Kaida' last='Eriksen'] and [player_tooltip player_id='844841' first='Tyler' last='Recob'] to exceed two kills per set on their individual ledger. And, like both of her underclassman years, junior setter [player_tooltip player_id='458132' first='Carlie' last='Kvols'] has reassumed her place atop Nebraska's assists leaderboards.

Elgin Public/Pope John

We have fond memories of Elgin Public/Pope John's semifinal surge in the 2023 Class D1 tournament. The Wolfpack looks determined to repeat that feat this fall after a one-year postseason hiatus.

Unsurprisingly, veteran leaders with high-level experience have piloted EPPJ's 6-0 start this fall. Senior outside hitter Kayton Zwingman has compiled 2.8 kills per set while also pacing the team with a 0.375 attack percentage. Class of 2027 standout [player_tooltip player_id='809951' first='Braelyn' last='Martinsen'] has also carved out a six-rotation role with 2.6 kills per set and an impressive volume of digs from the back row.

Brady

Brady could be an under-the-radar contender in a Class D1 field full of recognizable powerhouses. The team's season-opening win over C2 foe Perkins County set the tone en route to a 4-0 start.

Sky-high efficiency numbers can be found throughout Brady's frontcourt. [player_tooltip player_id='836855' first='Payton' last='Stienike'] and Kenlee Fattig have combined for nearly eight kills per set while hitting well over 0.200 on the outside. Fattig has also demonstrated her versatility as a backcourt setter who can run the offense and help her teammates terminate.

Versatility will be key as Brady enters another tough portion of its D1 schedule.

Wynot

We've seen plenty of parity in the Class D2 ranks, resulting in very few undefeated teams in the wildcard standings. Still, Wynot has survived the chaos to start another postseason push.

The Blue Devils, which have made multiple November trips to Lincoln over the past several years, are enjoying a 5-0 start while dropping zero sets along the way. Senior attacker [player_tooltip player_id='809715' first='Kenna' last='Oligmueller'] has returned to her familiar form with 3.9 kills per set in early-season play. [player_tooltip player_id='833323' first='Jordan' last='Foxhoven'] and [player_tooltip player_id='839223' first='Tiara' last='Sudbeck'] contribute to Wynot's veteran presence in the frontcourt, yielding one of Class D2's most efficient and balanced offenses.

Mullen

Mullen has climbed the Class D2 ladder thanks to a 4-0 start. Marathon victories over Anselmo-Merna and Hay Springs have offered plenty of drama during this run, but the Broncos have responded well to these pressure tests.

The senior class is noticeably absent from the top of Mullen's scoring charts. Rather, the sophomore duo of [player_tooltip player_id='737389' first='Jenna' last='Donohoe'] and Brynne McCully has combined for over five kills per set during the winning streak. Junior outside hitter [player_tooltip player_id='831677' first='Ella' last='Rice'] has also established herself as a go-to option along the net. The Broncos tie everything together with [player_tooltip player_id='499007' first='Kalli' last='Licking']'s steady leadership and gritty defense at the setter spot.
