Wonderstruck Win: Alexandria (4-5) Upsets Moorhead (5-3)

In a fast paced and nail-biting five sets, the Alexandria Cardinals defeat the Moorhead spuds by two points in the fifth set. Both teams put up a good fight, but below are the player that helped achieve the Cardinals' win!    Doherty takes control of the court. She is always communicating and ready the offense to make strategic plays. Her passing footwork and platform control allow her to make many plays and put the ball in a good position for her setter. Doherty's hustle allows to plays to continue, and even when it looks like chaos, she adds control. When out of system, she places the ball just right for her hitters to make a strong play. Her ability to cover her hitters, allows for more plays to be made. Doherty is an all around outstanding player.     Kracht is a powerhouse as a left handed right side. Her ability to perform multiple shots, whether its down the line, deep corners, or the middle of the court, she has the capability to work around and surprise the defense every swing. Her blocking footwork and ability to read the hitter makes her a brick wall in the front row. Defensively, Kracht is always ready at the net to swing or make a play on an overpass, or she is transitioned and ready to play an attack from the opposing team. She is highly skilled and can be counted on to score when needed.     Marti is extremely disciplined and well developed as a setter. She quickly gets her feet to the ball and squares up her hips before flawlessly setting to one of her hitters. She controls the offense and is not afraid to switch up routes. Her quick hands catches the opposing blockers off guard allowing her hitters to make dominant play. She has loud communication with her teammates and never fails to celebrate their successes. Marti's ability to use her platform and legs to provide her hitters with a ball to aggressively send over contributed to the teams overall success.     Watching Brown's agility and power, you would never think she is only in 8th grade. Brown works hard during every play with her dedication, hustle, and overall knowledge of the game. She has a quick approach with a strong and fast swing that gets the ball down. She can hit numerous area of the court by swinging, tipping, throwing, or roll shotting the ball. Brown can easily read the defense and play around them, often times catching them on their heels. Defensively she is ready to cover hitters or help defend tips, always moving and on her toes. Overall, Brown is a well rounded and skilled player.     Schlichting has a dominating swing on the outside. Whether she is swinging down the line or sharp cross, it is hard to slow her down. She has a fast approach allowing her to jump high and get on top of the ball with time to read the opposing defense. She works her shots around the blockers making her opponents move. Schlichting has great blocking footwork and timing allowing her to get many stops and touches.     As a defensive specialist, Beyer always find a way to get a strong touch on the ball. Her footwork allow her to beat the ball to its destination. Using her elite platform control she easily places the ball to her setter. Defensively, she transitions quickly and reads the hitter well to move if needed in order to make a play. She hustles to cover hitters and makes her presence know with her communication. When out of system, she provides her hitters with a high ball that allows them to make an aggressive play.     Suchy has hustle like no other and will not let the ball drop without going down with it. She never gives up on a play and is always on her toes, ready to make a move. In serve receive she has fast footwork and a strong platform that places the ball right to the setter. Suchy hustles to cover her hitters or get an out of system ball and make it playable. She is able to read hitters and move into seems to make the best play she can on the ball. Suchy has great communication and commitment to her team.     Posl is always ready at the net to make a play. Her IQ and ability to read the defense on overpasses helps her decide when to swing, push, or sweep the ball to result in scoring. Her quick transitions off the net put her in a strong position to get in an approach and be an option during every play. She has a fast approach and swing allowing her to get around blockers and the defense. Posl's snaps to the sidelines make it hard for the defense to get there in time to defend the ball. She is an outstanding player that hustles and works hard for every point.
