The Texas High School volleyball season is finishing up district play and the field is setting for the UIL State Playoffs. Everyone is playing hard in order to chase the ultimate prize, a State Championship. We have some intriguing storylines stemming from a top-notch and action-packed regular season. Let's take a look at some teams who are ready to make a solid run and a few individual players who can help them compete.

One of the main storylines that is on the minds of almost every volleyball enthusiast in the state is, “Can anyone dethrone or stop Byron Nelson from going undefeated for a second straight season in 6A Division 2?” The three-headed monster of [player_tooltip player_id='253981' first='Ashlyn' last='Seay'], [player_tooltip player_id='320954' first='Kylie' last='Kleckner'] and [player_tooltip player_id='518965' first='Sophee' last='Peterson'] should scare any team who gets matched up with them in a one and done playoff format. One person who really helps this team stay so strong is libero [player_tooltip player_id='433667' first='Savannah' last='Sterna']. The junior phenom really keeps their offense flowing with dimes passed to her setter from both serve receive and while digging. If they run the table, she will be one of the main reasons why. Lexi Proctor also has made a tremendous impact on offense and while at the service line. Her laser serve has led the team in aces all year long and keeps teams out of system. The Dynamic Duo of Seay and Kleckner on the pins are very difficult to defend against. Just when you think you are out of the danger zone after one rotates to the back row, here comes the other to take away your hope. Did I mention that [player_tooltip player_id='518965' first='Sophee' last='Peterson'] is arguable the best setter in the entire nation and has been for the past few years? Well she is and then some. The smart money is on this squad to keep their nation's best winning streak going to the end.

In 6A Division 1, the Allen Eagles are hungry and bring a 35-5 overall record into the playoffs. This talented squad has some younger ballers who are ready to show the upperclassmen that they belong. With super sophomores [player_tooltip player_id='586653' first='Maya' last='Ogbogu'], Landry McRae, [player_tooltip player_id='839343' first='Olivia' last='Kitur'], and [player_tooltip player_id='827011' first='Katie' last='Wawersich'] on the court, it will be fun to see them battle older squads. They do have a few upperclassmen like [player_tooltip player_id='389257' first='Emily' last='Capangpangan'], [player_tooltip player_id='235287' first='Kennedy' last='Crayton'] and [player_tooltip player_id='503707' first='Gaby' last='Wenger'] who have tons of experience to help lead these young stars. Their leadership will be huge during the next few weeks of playoff ball. The one player that stands out the most is arguably one of the best young players in the nation, [player_tooltip player_id='586653' first='Maya' last='Ogbogu']. Her vertical alone should worry any defender who is matched up with her. When you match that awesome approach jump with her power, you get an explosion that is difficult to contain. In the 25 years that I have been involved in the sport, this young lady is one of the best I have ever seen at her age. You will not be able to stop her, but if you want a chance to slow her down, you HAVE to commit a double block and don't jump too early, otherwise she will eat you alive. Good luck to all who try. You will need it.

Also in 6A Division 1, do not count out two-time champion Grand Oaks Grizzlies. They bring a 33-8 overall record and one of the nations top six rotation outsides in [player_tooltip player_id='318128' first='Halle' last='Thompson']. The future Wisconsin Badger is one of the most lethal point scorers who can get hot at any moment and light up a stat book/scoreboard in a hurry. Do not count her out as she is as competitive as they come and knows what it takes to be a champion. She has some help in [player_tooltip player_id='534414' first='Mia' last='Owens'] and [player_tooltip player_id='731292' first='Kate' last='Bull']. They are secondary weapons who score the ball at a decent clip. Senior setters Kayla Aranda and [player_tooltip player_id='254093' first='Cambrie' last='Cavanaugh'] know exactly what is at stake and have the skills to get this team to the promised land once more. I would not want to bet against this squad as they have a great coaching staff who has the experience of winning two titles and this cannot be ignored.
