Multi-Position Stars to Watch in Updated Kansas 2028 Rankings

Multi-position standouts are a staple of prep volleyball. We sometimes lose sight of the fact that high school-aged athletes are still developing within their sport and discovering their strengths. Volleyball is a beautiful game to showcase varying skills while embracing different on-court roles from one match to the next.   Kansas' Class of 2028 has demonstrated this well. You'll surely see a lot of slashes in the positional column of our <a href="https://prepdig.com/kansas/rankings/2028-rankings/" id="https://prepdig.com/kansas/rankings/2028-rankings/">2028 rankings</a>. Even elite prep players are seldom tied to a position and may jump between spots from fall to spring. Whatever the case, these rising juniors have the versatility that college coaches covet.    Where can't McDonald dominate at the net? She has the strength, length, and physicality to excel at any position at the collegiate level. This year's Shockwave 16 Black squad was partial to running McDonald on the left side, where she could wield her takeover potential as much as possible. However, this Valley Center junior is no stranger to locking down the middle or teeing off on the other antenna. A fruitful summer trip to AAU Nationals has propelled McDonald's stock even further, and it's reflected in our new rankings.     We've alluded to Harris' dynamic positional designation before. When KC Power 16-1 visited Premier Nebraska to kick off the 2026 season, Harris dazzled us with her high-flying swings on the left pin. Her natural outside approach made it easy to forget that she lit up the Kansas prep scene as a middle last fall. Harris soared as one of the state's top slide terminators and boasted a 0.313 hitting clip for Blue Valley West. This stint showed that Harris is just as effective off of one foot as she is on two. Either spot projects well for Harris in the college ranks.     Surprisingly, we waited this long to bring our first setter-hitter into the fray. Wisdom is a quintessential double-double factory whose quick arm and smooth hands can churn out plenty of stats. She tallied three kills per set and nearly four assists per set while wearing multiple hats for Maize High School last fall. And, just to cement Wisdom's volleyball transfiguration, she is also a scrappy athlete on the beach circuit--an increasingly common theme among Wichita athletes.     We can always expect some pin-DS hybrids to make their mark in the Heart of America Region. Johnson did it all for this year's vaunted Dynasty 16 Black unit. Whenever she rotated into the front row, this Olathe Northwest junior reached new heights with her broad, springy approach. Meanwhile, Johnson adapted to defensive roles that put her middle-back vision to the test. She dug some serious heat at the Open level and provided plenty of highlights for coaches to evaluate.     Left side or right side? Goode has done it all. The KC-area star has earned reps on the left pin for St. Thomas Aquinas and will compete for a starting role again this fall. She shifted over to the opposite spot for this year's MAVS 16 Elite lineup, and that move was the real spearhead for Goode's rankings rise. She brought her best to some of 2026's best venues, from Triple Crown NIT to USAV Nationals. Goode has become great at the right time.     Much like Goode, Fieleke commands plenty of attention on either side of the setter. She rocketed to prominence with this year's Lawrence Landsharks club squad, which did not hesitate to move Fieleke around and give her different matchups. Pin-to-pin firepower is not the only surprising element of Fieleke's game, either. She is also an apt wing defender who can keep rallies alive with her off-blocker instincts. Lawrence Free State has an impressive wave of juniors to leverage this fall.     Here's a new one for the database. Oldham joins our 2028 rankings after a well-rounded campaign with Southwest Pursuit's 16-1 Black crew. Before the spring, this do-everything athlete flourished in Year 2 with Lakin High School, soaring past the 200 mark in both kills and digs. This makes Oldham an ideal rural prospect who doesn't need to dent the floor to elevate her recruiting momentum. Rather, her adaptability and routine plays will set her apart as she becomes an upperclassman with the Broncs.
