In preparation for the first edition of the Kansas Class of 2028 rankings I scouted three 14U Power League matches on March 9, in Shawnee Kansas.

One of the teams I watched closely was the [program_tooltip program_id='430200' first='KC' last='Power'] 14-1 squad. The Power won a close-fought three-set match against the Topeka Saints 14-1 squad. Here is a look at some young athletes who impressed me with their play. The players included in this report are currently 8th Graders, but I have noted their expected high schools.

If any high school coach, club coach, or athlete would like to make suggestions for the initial Class of 2028 Kansas rankings please feel free to email me at deckscoutks@gmail.com or follow and direct message me on X @KSScoutDeck. I know it seems a long time away, but athletes who want to play college ball need to start putting together video highlights and social media accounts to prepare for the recruiting process.

[player_tooltip player_id='518347' first='Aliyah' last='Harris'], 5'8”, OH, '28 (Blue Valley West)

Harris has some serious ups. She and her twin sister Nyah make a solid one-two-punch that any high school team would want on their roster. Both sisters are currently home-schooled but currently live in the Blue Valley West District. Harris finished with a team-high 10 kills and absolutely dominated the third set of the match. She also has a nice serve which accounted for four aces.

[player_tooltip player_id='518345' first='Nyah' last='Harris'], 5'8”, S/RS, '28 (Blue Valley West)

I listed both Harris sisters at 5-foot-8, but she might very well be a full inch taller than her twin sister. Her game is just a tick more explosive than Aliyah's. She can set and hit. Nyah finished with four kills, two digs, and two aces. I often suggest that young female athletes need to hit the gym and improve their upper-body strength, but by the looks of the Harris sisters, they may have been born under a bench press bar. They are both physically imposing.

[player_tooltip player_id='518353' first='Mya' last='Lee'], 6'1”, OH, '28 (St. James Academy)

Add Lee to the list of physically intimidating 14-year-olds on the Power roster. These young ladies must truly buy into the power game, as Lee hit a couple of balls that looked as if they were fired out of a cannon. Of the three tall Power players featured, she arguably is the best back-row defensive player of the three. She registered six kills, eight serve receptions, four digs, one block, and one ace in the win over the Topeka Saints.

[player_tooltip player_id='518351' first='Emery' last='Black'], 5'6”, L, '28 (Blue Valley Southwest)

Black is a salty libero who got to a ton of balls in this match. I am not sure why the Saints continually served at her, but she made nice first passes and a couple of amazing digs. She moves well laterally and has a nice defensive base. She racked up 23 serve receptions and 15 digs in the three-set victory.

[player_tooltip player_id='518349' first='Sanaa' last='Woodberry'], 5'8”, MB/OH, '28 (Olathe West)

Woodberry just might be the best jumper on the [program_tooltip program_id='430200' first='KC' last='Power'] roster. She can get up and hit with some power. She played front-row-only in this match, and her playing time was someone limited as the Power's long scoring runs seemed to come with her on the bench. She finished with two kills and I liked her game. The Olathe West Owls are a solid program that churns out college talent, so it will be interesting to see how her game evolves.

In preparation for the first edition of the Kansas Class of 2028 rankings I scouted three 14U Power League matches on March 9, in Shawnee Kansas.
