Setters in the 2025 Rankings Update!

Coverage of the August 2025 Rankings Update continues. In this article, we focus on setters. [player_tooltip player_id='253254' first='Annika' last='Wright'] tops the setter position and is ranked the # 12 player overall in the state. Wright is also a dynamic hitter from the right side, and her smooth hands and athleticism will help a quality University of Montana team when she moves on to the next level.   Setters in this 2025 class all get it done a bit differently, each with their unique strengths. [player_tooltip player_id='249381' first='Peyton' last='Ensign'] from PSVBA is left-handed with quality size and terrific set location. [player_tooltip player_id='249189' first='Ava' last='Jo Berry'], out of Wenatchee, is a fiery leader and winner who uses her competitiveness and athleticism to push her teams to perform. [player_tooltip player_id='249414' first='Addison' last='Eastwood'] has a great feel for the game and knows when and where to feed the hot hand. [player_tooltip player_id='220494' first='Reese' last='Sheppard'] is an experienced big-game performer with positional versatility and good length at 5'9". [player_tooltip player_id='231726' first='Isabelle' last='Foote'] has sweet hands, an intelligent volleyball IQ, and the strength to push the ball pin to pin.   Here is a closer look at setters from throughout the rankings.       Fortenberry has the ability to set or slide onto the opposite/right-side position. The versatile 2025 from Cascade Christian filled that role last season in high school ball, and handled some serve receive this season in club. Fortenberry has solid athleticism and good location on her sets; Cascade Christian returned most of the players from a state tournament team last season; Fortenberry will be among the leaders looking for another trip to the State.     Arnold plays excellent defense and showed another side to her game when she led RVC in a 5-1 at Emerald City. The Ridgeline prospect accurately set the slide, reversed the flow confidently, and kept defenses honest with her attacking. Togia can pop up any swing or tip with just one hand if needed; she has good ball control and reads hitters well. She can take a pass that's tight to the net, contort her body, and send it to the outside with accuracy. Townsend had to take swings as a middle for Aspire, play middle back defensively, and play the right side and outside, among other things. It's a testament to her willingness to accept any role the team needed and compete hard while doing it. She looked especially good in the middle back defensively, reading tips and off-speed effectively and delivering clean passes to her setter.     Phipps has quick feet, whether she is running down the second ball or running down a tip deflection that looks like it's headed to the floor. She showed an excellent connection with her SIVBC attackers this season, taking advantage of the tall and dynamic lineup of hitters with a fast tempo and varied attack. The rising senior from Eastlake has good size at 5'9" and works hard from the service line and on defense.      The CPA and West Valley (Spokane) setter has worked on her game as hard as any player out there. Committed to Lewis and Clark State, Focht had an outstanding season leading the way for her 17 Drew team through Nationals in Vegas. Esping's sets come out of her hands extremely clean and give her attackers an excellent chance to score. The Archbishop Murphy standout can turn and hammer the ball on two when she is in the front row, a valuable weapon that lets her score easy points for her team.
