After about a month of high school action, we have a good idea of who needs to jump into our Class of 2027 rankings.

Those Nebraska 2027 rankings received an initial Top 25 right before the fall season began. Since then, we've watched several sophomores stake their claim for a spot in our next rankings update. Our rankings refresh is quickly approaching, so let's give you the inside scoop.

Here are a few names that should contend for rankings positions in Nebraska's 2027 list.

Shaw nearly made the initial Top 25 after her outstanding club season with Nebraska Elite. This dynamic middle blocker helped her Nebraska Elite squad clinch an early 15 Open bid, setting the stage for Shaw's further development at USAV Nationals. Now, Shaw is carrying the banner at Douglas County West and has racked up 2.5 kills per set so far. She has already eclipsed her 2023 total in that department and is averaging a 0.319 clip, too. Shaw's rise should result in a rankings bump.

We have more than one sophomore to hone in on at Gering High School. John is part of an electrifying underclassman crew that has lifted the Bulldogs to a 9-5 start. This high-flying outside hitter averages 3.4 kills per set and brings various other skills to the Gering lineup. If the Bulldogs need a backup setter option, John can step in. She also plays outstanding floor defense that can help her team terminate in transition. We're eager to see if this sophomore sensation can bring her well-rounded game to the postseason stage.

Capece is a six-rotation standout who fits perfectly into Omaha Marian's system. We saw this Premier Nebraska outside hitter influence club matches through more than just her termination. Capece anchors the serve-receive pattern and can go pass-to-attack as a frontcourt hitter. She is contributing over two kills per set with the Crusaders and accompanies that with nearly four digs per set along the end line. The Class A scene is a perfect place to sharpen all-around skills, and Capece is embracing that opportunity.

We've known about Ervin's enormous potential for a while. Her multi-position onslaught at Ogalalla produced 2.3 kills per set in Ervin's freshman campaign. That's a high bar to set in Year 1, but Ervin has exceeded expectations as a sophomore. Her 3.7 kills per set ranks among the best in Nebraska's sophomore class, and Ervin is just getting started. She can play in the middle or on the pin--as long as she's getting as many swings as possible.

Laurel-Concord-Coleridge boasts one of small-town Nebraska's most effective setters. Kvols guides the offense with 9.4 assists per set--a healthy improvement over her 8.4 mark in 2023. Stepping in as a freshman setter is tough, but Kvols got to experience that challenge last fall. She is now prepared to handle the lofty expectations for the Bears in 2024. Laurel-Concord-Coleridge has rolled to a 14-2 start and has gained valuable wildcard positioning for the road ahead.

Quinn entered the spotlight as soon as the 2024 high school season began. She stepped into Waverly's libero role and produced key defensive plays en route to a five-set win over Lincoln Lutheran. This year's club season gave us a full glimpse at how impactful Quinn can be as a backcourt signal-caller. Her success with [program_tooltip program_id='428743' first='VCNebraska' last=''] has prepared Quinn for similar gains with many of her club compatriots at Waverly.

Langhorst can take over matches with her length and physicality. She had an exceptional debut season with Archbishop Bergan last fall and carried that momentum to the Premier Nebraska gym this year. Year 2 with the Knights has offered a dramatic uptick in Langhorst's offensive production. She is putting down 4.5 kills per set after averaging around two as a freshman. Langhorst is racking up these numbers at a 0.299 clip and is among the state's best frontcourt weapons. Bergan is determined to make its tournament return behind Langhorst's leadership.
