In true KIVA form, Hurley continues to find ways to improve her overall game. Hurley’s blocking has really improved in recent weeks. Hurley makes nice touches on balls and has found more ways to involve different hitters with the 17 Red team. Hurley even makes things happen when first touches fly out of system.

Hurley moved up 14 spots having displayed better poise and precision with her sets this club season. Hurley makes great reads and does not dwell on mistakes. She comes back and makes the next plays better. Hurley is a solid passer and is very coachable. Hurley gives opponents trouble with her spinning serves.

This is a huge club season in more than one ways for Hurley as she looks to take over the setter spot for three-time defending state champion Assumption. She’d have started other places, but has been waiting behind talented setters for the Rockets. Hurley is very coachable and as typical with KIVA players, she continues to improve in more ways that one each practice and game. She stymies good defensive specialists with her spinning serve and also makes sound passes.

Hurley is destined to have a great club season then step into the setter role for Assumption her senior year after serving as the backup as a junior for the loaded 25-time state champions. Hurley does a great job mixing up her sets and involving a number of different hitters. Hurley mixes in setovers and a deceptive back tap setter dump. Hurley showed off her sound serving in the state quarterfinals. Hurley had 276 assists for the Rockets in the fall.

Hurley turned a lot of corners in the spring and continues that sound play in the fall. Her mental toughness has especially come a long way. She’s found different ways to make things happen such as setovers and setting different hitters at different angles.

Hurley does a great job finding the hot hitters. She’s trying to add in more setter dumps creating more one-on-one blocking matchups at the net. Hurley said she’s been working on finding ways to switch things up offensively, not sticking to set plays.

Hurley has done a better job setting the ball closer to the net in this tournament making it easier for the powerful 16 Red hitters to put balls down. Hurley played a big role in helping 16 Red go 3-0 on Sunday. Hurley mixes in a variety of short and long sets to the middle and the pins. She moves her feet to the target to get in good position on the sets. Hurley even throws in setter dumps and back taps to throw off defenses. She dives after balls on defense and puts up sound double blocks. Hurley took away lines well in the last game Sunday.
