Sieun Choi has turned a small, regional club schedule into a recruiting advantage through sheer output. She builds her own highlight reels after every tournament and pushes them everywhere she can, posting to YouTube, emailing programs directly, and sharing across Instagram and X, rather than waiting for a bigger club platform to do that work for her. That initiative has already started to pay off, with D3 academically strong programs reaching out for transcripts and test scores ahead of phone calls. On the court, she plays libero with a fearless, attacking mentality on defense, going after every ball she can reach rather than waiting for it to come to her. Her biggest challenge right now is finding more advanced footage to showcase given her club’s smaller tournament schedule, and she’s working around that limitation the same way she plays defense, by staying aggressive about the solution instead of the problem.

Sometimes a simple conversation changes the way an athlete sees the game.

For Sieun Sophia Choi, that moment came during serve receive.

Like many athletes, she found herself chasing the perfect pass. Every rep carried pressure. Every mistake felt bigger than it needed to be.

Then a college coach asked a simple question.

Sophia explained that she wanted to deliver the perfect pass. The coach smiled and reminded her that the goal was simply a good pass.

The message landed immediately.

Volleyball often becomes harder when athletes expect perfection. Trusting training, staying positive, and continuing to compete after mistakes usually creates better results than chasing flawless execution.

One of Sophia’s favorite moments came later in the day when she battled through a difficult stretch, stayed mentally engaged, and helped create one of the longest rallies of the session.
