It has been a pleasure for us, at Prep Dig Texas, to continue to cover the decisive moments of another season of high school volleyball in our state and attending as many matches as possible every week in the Houston area, producing articles, photos and social media posts that highlight the impressive performances and accomplishments of our players.

On Tuesday, November 11, we were in attendance when a spot in the State Tournament was in play between the Dawson Eagles and the Seven Lakes Spartans in the Division 1 Regional Final, at Delmar Fieldhouse.

The senior outside hitter led Dawson's offense with a steady and productive performance. Koonsen was the team's go-to scoring option, getting many sets both at the pin and the middle back position, and managed to put the ball down at a consistent rate throughout the match while also making very few errors. She was the one who decided set two, the only one in which the Eagles were truly under pressure, and did a great job of using her vision to find ways around Seven Lakes' tall blockers during the entire match. Koonsen also handled her serve-receive responsibilities well and showed great positioning on the back row when playing defense.

The senior libero was extremely consistent and led Dawson's back row efforts with incredible efficiency. Thedford covered a lot of ground in serve receive and consistently delivered accurate passes to her setters. The libero also stood out with her quick movement and ball control on the back row, getting to deflected shots and controlling hard-driven swings to generate transition opportunities for the Eagles. One of the team's leaders, Thedford had a long serving run in set one, which helped her team create the separation win by an incredible 15-point margin, and also did well when she had to set, confidently using her hands to do it.

One of Dawson's setters, Ranney did a great job of keeping her team running on a dynamic offense throughout the match. She tried to use her middles and right side hitters as much as possible in system, but quickly turned to her pin hitters when needed. Ranney did a great job of recognizing Koonsen's excellent match and got her her ball as much as possible, but was very intelligent with how she diversified the pace of the sets and their locations, keeping her hitter one step ahead of Seven Lakes' blockers for most of the time. She was also solid on the back row and made a critical defensive play in the final point of set two, giving her team the ability to win it.

The senior defensive specialist was of great importance for Dawson, adding a lot to their back row efforts. Tijerina came in to replace outside hitter [player_tooltip player_id='839573' first='Sloane' last='Ranney'] and did a great job of splitting the defensive duties with Thedford. Together, they ensured passing was always accurate, giving the team every possibility on offense, while also making good plays on defense. Like most of her teammates, Tijerina also served very well, consistently getting the Spartans out of system.

Like her entire team, the senior libero had a difficult start to the match, making uncharacteristic errors, even in serve-receive. Chapman managed to turn the page and got back to her usual level in the second set, being more of a leader for the Spartans. She led the team in passes (21) and digs (14) and also fired an ace. Chapman was also very solid with her transition sets.

Despite Seven Lakes not being able to perform at their usual level, Okwura still managed to produce well against Dawson. The sophomore middle was very effective with her blocking, moving well at the net and playing aggressively to deliver a team-high five stops. She also contributed six kills, getting the ball more often in the last two sets, when the team's passing was more stable.
