Catching Up on Iowa 2027 Commits

The commits are falling into place.  Athletes from the Class of 2027 are finding their future homes.  Some of them are heading to some of the top programs in the Midwest who are making a splash nationally.  Take a look at who has made their verbal commit!     [player_tooltip player_id='490015' first='Mazie' last='Sweers'] has always packed a punch when it comes to swinging big on the outside. The 2027 outside hitter will be heading to D2 Missouri Western State in St. Joseph, MO. The Griffins are coming off a 21-8 season which landed them in the D2 national tournament. Sweers played a different role for her Pleasant Valley High School team where she was a standout setter this past fall. However, the outside is where she really thrives. Her performance at Iowa Select has been exciting where she's not afraid to swing big and mix in some creativity in her shot making.     Another Iowa Select athlete is off the board as [player_tooltip player_id='489674' first='Jordan' last='Tegeler'] has committed to Lewis University located in Romeoville, Illinois. The Flyers have been a D2 power where they compete in the GLVC. In 2024 they advanced to the second round of the D2 national tournament. Tegeler has a high contact point and knows how to use the top the block, hit the sharp angle or the deep corner. She is also an outlet to score points out of serve receive as well.     [player_tooltip player_id='555820' first='London' last='Taylor'] is so solid in the backrow as one of the top liberos in the Iowa Class of 2027. She won a state title with Waukee Northwest this fall as a junior and will be looking to repeat as a senior where they return some top talent. She has been a key piece to the success this club season for PowerPlex 17 Mendoza who will be heading to nationals with a USA bid.     Minnesota State will be getting another PowerPlex athlete in [player_tooltip player_id='394331' first='Maggie' last='Leifker']. They will be bringing in 2026 graduate in setter Kaelyn Wieland who had a successful career at WDM Valley and Plex. Leifker is coming off a state tournament appearance for Dallas Center-Grimes. She is part of the PowerPlex 17 Brogean team who has claimed a 17 Open bid, being one of the top 48 teams in the country to go head to head at USAV Nationals.     [player_tooltip player_id='555797' first='Marlee' last='Ellison'] is another PowerPlex commit from the Class of 2027 who has given her verbal commitment to Lenoir Rhyne. Lenoir Rhyne is a Division 2 school located in Hickory, North Carolina in the Southern Athletic Conference. They are coming off a 23-8 season in 2025 where they advanced to the second round of the D2 national tournament. Ellison will be looking to have a big senior season for Ankeny where they will be building off a final four appearance in 5A in 2025. She is an electric scorer who can find points on the board in multiple ways.     Another PowerPlex 17 Mendoza athlete to verbally commit this spring is [player_tooltip player_id='443125' first='Liv' last='Davis'] of Waukee High School. She will be heading to Kent State, a D1 school located in Kent, Ohio. She will be heading to the MAC which is always an exciting volleyball conference. Haley Eckerman is the head coach for the Flashes where she prepped at Waterloo East and was a national champion at Texas. Davis has always brought an athletic and physical style to the setter position where she can run the quick tempo, shoot it to the outside, or take it herself on the second contact.     [player_tooltip player_id='493982' first='Deidra' last='Doeden'] has put together quite the high school career across multiple sports. She has been a force on the volleyball and basketball court for Cherokee where she has been to both state tournaments. As a middle blocker, she has a blend of athleticism and physicality where she posing a huge threat to the other side of the net. She is knows how to read and react, her athleticism and size is pretty special. She will head to Wichita State where the Shockers compete in the American Conference.     So dynamic. [player_tooltip player_id='574225' first='Addy' last='Wolfswinkel'] has been entertaining to watch no matter what sport she is playing. Her club and high school teammate [player_tooltip player_id='493982' first='Deidra' last='Doeden'] are accustomed to playing on the big stage at volleyball and basketball state tournaments. Wolfswinkel is a setter who can also attack, a true all around player. The other side of the net always has to know what rotation she's in and what she is able to do when the ball comes her way. Omaha is a program who will look to make a move in a rugged Summit League that has been won by South Dakota State in the regular season the past two seasons.     Wayne State, one of the top D2 programs in the country has benefited greatly from Iowa athletes year in and year out. They will bring in [player_tooltip player_id='493652' first='Kaitlyn' last='Hardie'] out of Sergeant Bluff-Luton who covers quite the area as a libero. She has been a standout for Kairos out of Sioux Falls for her club ball where she's gone head to head with some of the top teams in the country.     [player_tooltip player_id='747361' first='Sidney' last='Rogers'] has been playing against tough competition all club season for PowerPlex 17 Brogean who has qualified for USAV 17 Open. She brings length and athleticism to the middle blocker position. She will take her talents to Winona State who is part of the Northern Sun Conference, one of the top conferences nationally for D2. She will look to get back to the state tournament for Ankeny Centennial who has had quite the run in making it to the state tournament in Coralville.
