Prep Dig Arkansas: Class of 2030 Rankings
The Class of 2030 is already making some serious noise across Arkansas volleyball. These freshmen aren't just filling varsity roster spots. Several are playing important roles, putting up impressive numbers and competing against players three and four years older.
We've seen this before. Players like

burst onto the scene as freshmen last season and have continued to make an impact as sophomores. They showed that being young doesn't mean you can't compete at a high level.
Now this new group of freshmen is starting to create its own path. We've already covered some promising names, including

. These players have stepped into varsity roles and shown they can contribute against older, more experienced competition.
But I want to emphasize something about these initial rankings. We are working with a very small sample size of evaluations. There are a lot of talented freshmen across Arkansas I haven't had the opportunity to see yet. Club season will bring more players onto the radar and give us a much better opportunity to evaluate this class.
I've written about this before, but rankings and articles serve two different purposes. Rankings are evaluations based on projected recruitability at the college level. Articles are about recognizing new talent, big performances, milestones and players making an impact. A player can have a monster freshman season and deserve plenty of coverage without necessarily being one of the top college prospects in the class.
At this age, development can happen quickly. Players grow, change positions, improve their skills and gain confidence. Some of the players who will eventually be among the best in this class may not even be on this first list.
I fully expect these rankings to change quite a bit over the coming months. That's part of the process, and it's one of the things I enjoy most about evaluating young talent. So here is our first look at the Prep Dig Arkansas Class of 2030 Top 25. Congratulations to these young ladies, but remember, this is just the starting point. There is a lot more volleyball to be played and plenty more talent to discover.
Let's look at a few of the players on this list (I am overseas, so I don't have all the stats.

. All three have tremendous potential, and there wasn't much separating them in my evaluations. Rice and Ricketts have the varsity production to back up their spots, while Stearns is currently playing on Benton's freshman team. Don't mistake that for an indication of her talent. I think it's a smart move by Coach White, allowing Stearns to get more reps and continue developing while the varsity squad is rolling right now.
Stearns is an extremely talented setter with a very bright future ahead of her. That's not to say Ricketts and Rice don't have equally exciting futures. We're talking about freshmen here, and this list is going to change as we get more opportunities to evaluate them.
What puts Stearns at the top for me right now is her projection. At 5'11", she brings good size to the setter position, along with athleticism, a high volleyball IQ and the quality of play she showed during last year's club season. She has the tools that translate well to the next level.
In fact, she reminds me a lot of another talented setter in the 501 Volley program.
Again, these are early evaluations, not final judgments. Ricketts and Rice have already shown what they can do against varsity competition, and I expect all three to continue pushing each other as this class develops.

all have the tools to make some serious noise in this class.
Yancey may have the most upside of anyone in this group. At 5'11", she already has good size and versatility at the net. Unfortunately, she had to have surgery to address a nagging injury, which was a real blow for Lakeside. She should be ready to return around the first of the year. If she grows a little more, her ceiling could be extremely high.
Bush has been putting up some of the best varsity numbers among the freshmen in Arkansas. The Lamar outside has taken on a heavy offensive workload while also contributing on the back row. At 6'1", Berry brings the kind of size that gets college coaches' attention, while Lindsey, at 5'10", gives Bentonville West another young front-row player with plenty of room to develop.
Booy is the player I really want to focus on in this group. She has turned it on lately for Conway, including a 15-kill performance in a loss to Cabot. She has a powerful right arm and is working hard to develop the finer points of playing the pin positions. She is doing this in the 6A Central against tough competition.
Physically, she's an imposing player, and watching her compete, you wouldn't think she was just a freshman. As her mechanics and understanding of the game continue to improve, Booy has the potential to become a major offensive weapon for the Lady Cats.
Definitely should be higher:

Another Latham:
Notice a few familiar last names on this list? Well, here's another one. Coach Rhonda Thigpen is extremely high on her young setter, and for good reason. At 5'8", Latham is a bit of a tweener when it comes to the size many major college programs look for in a setter. But talent, skill and volleyball IQ can certainly trump height.
Latham has an exciting future ahead of her as she develops into a leader for Lakeside. She has the opportunity to grow into the position over the next few years, and I'm really looking forward to seeing her compete during club season. That's where we'll get an even better look at her development and recruiting potential.
Exciting times ahead for this young setter!
