About Danica

Can you provide a brief description of your mentality or personality?

I hate to lose more than I love to win. The feeling of winning is euphoric, especially if it's in a game that "you're not supposed to win." However, in my opinion, if taking a loss, big or small, doesn't light a fire under your butt to be better and play better, then you don't love the game as much as you would like to believe. Although this doesn't stand in the way of being a personable teammate.

Are you involved in any clubs, organizations, or have you received any non-sport awards?

In the course of my freshman year, I am actively participating in Beta club, Student Council, and FFA. I have received high academic honor roll and placed top 3 in biomedical competitions at beta state. For the last 3 years, I have also been involved in Student-Athlete Scholars.

What skills or qualities have you developed, such as leadership, teamwork, or community service?

Since first starting travel volleyball at the age of 11, I have certainly grown as a player and as a person. I lacked confidence as a person and that became blatantly obvious when I played. Throughout the last 4 years, I have gain tremendous confidence on and off the court. This had led to me becoming a much more vocal player as well as a better teammate.

What type of college are you looking for?

I am looking for a strong academic college that offers my majors that I'm currently considering (biology, biochemistry/physics, biomedical engineering, or biotechnology.) I am open to any location within the United States and to any athletic opportunities.

When I think of a kid I would love to coach as a middle, I think of Danica. She clearly loves the game and is driven to improve her craft and never stop learning – each time I have seen her play she has gotten significantly better and more confident. One area of improvement I really noticed was her quickness on offense and her fast arm swing making her a very efficient attacker, especially in front of the setter. Dowling’s transition has improved as well, and she is clearly working on being an option on offense every single time – a skill that I wish more young middles would focus on. If she can keep working on her lateral speed when blocking so she can close quickly and more often, Danica is going to be a menace to the teams she plays against. I love having her in the gym and can’t wait to see how she develops over the next year or so with all of the hard work she is putting in.
