This won't be the last time we see Premier Nebraska 16 Gold in Indianapolis.

The Nike Mideast Qualifier has emerged as a new venue to watch for Great Plains Region bid hopefuls--especially Premier Nebraska. MEQ's second weekend converged on St. Louis, where Premier Nebraska 15 Gold earned a coveted Open bid with a fifth-place finish. One week later, the 16s followed suit.

MEQ shifted from St. Louis to Indianapolis for the event's third weekend, but Premier Nebraska's emphasis on this venue didn't waver. The club brought a host of 16s and 17s teams to the tournament. Premier Nebraska 16 Gold quickly established itself as a torchbearer for the club and locked up a GJNC berth in the toughest division of all.

Indianapolis will host this summer's USAV Nationals, but 16 Gold decided to start its Hoosier State success a little early. Add another top-tier contender to the Nebraska Bid Tracker.

Leaving No Doubt

Open qualifiers often yield complicated trickle-down scenarios and contingency matches. We saw that with Premier Nebraska 15 Gold at St. Louis's MEQ weekend.

16 Gold, however, wanted to seize control of its own bid pursuit in Indianapolis. Premier Nebraska's top 16s contender started the weekend as the 16 Open's No. 2 seed in Pool 5, but it didn't take long to outperform that billing.

The Great Plains crew assured its spot in the next round after two sweeps against Alabama Performance and WD Nation. But, as we'd see throughout the weekend, 16 Gold was not content with settling for second. Premier Nebraska toppled top-seeded KC Power in the Friday finale to improve to 3-0 heading into Saturday.

Round 2 was equally impressive. Three-set wins against Apex and Blue Steel showed us the same resilience that allowed last year's group to hoist the 15 USA title at GJNC. 16 Gold polished off its Day 2 slate with a sweep over Mintonette, improving to 6-0 overall.

If this perfection trend continued, 16 Gold would be on the fast track to an Open berth. An outright pool victory would assure an Open bid if one previously qualified team reached the semifinal round.

And that's exactly how Championship Sunday played out in Indy. Premier Nebraska extended its winning streak to eight with wins over PineappleHP and TAV Houston. Meanwhile, A5 16-Gabe swiped a spot in the final four while already holding an Open bid. The deed was done for Premier Nebraska.

After several close calls during last year's journey, 16 Gold's third-place finish at MEQ was the perfect Open retribution.

A Continuous Collective

This 16 Gold group has largely stayed intact from last year's GJNC title-winning iteration, and that continuity is paying off at the highest level.

Of course, every Open contender needs its go-to attackers. 16 Gold has boasted a balanced effort in the front row, but Gretna outside hitter [player_tooltip player_id='575235' first='Logann' last='Dostal'] remains the trendsetter in this department. MEQ served as a stark reminder of Dostal's versatility and terminal ability. She skied over opposing blockers along the net and brought the same quality pipe reps we saw at early-season tournaments. Dostal has cemented her place as one of Nebraska's top 2028 prospects at any position.

The left-side hitter spot across from Dostal has brought so many other stars into the spotlight. [player_tooltip player_id='575232' first='Katie' last='Callahan'] has been a major contributor at this spot, even if she's not in the front row. This Skutt Catholic sophomore is a natural middle-back passer who can anchor 16 Gold's floor defense at any time. She is ready-made for the L2 spot.

[player_tooltip player_id='773875' first='Teagan' last='Nielsen'] has joined the 16 Gold lineup to offer further strength on the left side. Like Callahan, Nielsen has thrived in whatever lineup 16 Gold has deployed. Her climb in the Premier Nebraska gym will be reciprocated in our rankings.

Familiar assets can be found on the right pin, too. This is where [player_tooltip player_id='737386' first='Adara' last='Fowlkes'] and [player_tooltip player_id='737391' first='Sara' last='Foley'] have combined to form a wicked one-two combination in 16 Gold's two-setter offense. Fowlkes's extensive background as a middle blocker makes her a perfect candidate for crossing patterns in first-ball situations. Foley, meanwhile, has the rare ability to carry a serve-receive role as a frontcourt opposite.

Speaking of serve-receive, 16 Gold has all the backcourt talent needed to operate its in-system option. In addition to massive first-contact contributions from Callahan and Dostal, [player_tooltip player_id='575218' first='Avery' last='Whaley'] has become a key sub in the back row. She is particularly comfortable in Zone 6, but we've seen Whaley excel in the contrasting jersey, too.

Gretna standout [player_tooltip player_id='567542' first='Ava' last='Nowling'] remains the focal point of Premier Nebraska's defense. She has stood near the top of our Nebraska 2028 libero hierarchy for a while, and Nowling keeps finding ways to elevate her play against elite competition. GJNC will add to her highlight tape.

Pinpoint passing leads to ample opportunities for middle blockers. [player_tooltip player_id='566265' first='Leighton' last='Froehlich'] and [player_tooltip player_id='755414' first='Eryn' last='Gigstead'] have taken full advantage while exhibiting every skill you could want from your middles. 16 Gold isn't afraid to run this duo behind the setter, even in three-hitter rotations. Quality block touches have also increased in frequency from this tandem.

We might as well maintain this "duo" theme as we wrap up with the setters. [player_tooltip player_id='790090' first='Remi' last='Christiansen'] and [player_tooltip player_id='737390' first='Riley' last='Wellensiek'] are the headliners at this spot and provide incredible stability while rotating in and out of the match. Either is capable of running a 5-1 if needed, as we've seen on the prep side. These are quintessential team players.

And team success has followed. Will that lead to a second podium ascent in the Circle City?
