Below is my Chesapeake Regional All Tournament team. These were the top performers who played well during the window when I watched them. Only players from the top four teams are eligible to make the all tournament team. A total of 15 players were selected. The challenge with putting together a team like this is limiting the number of talented left sides who made an impact in the tournament.

What separated Daisy from the other setters was her tremendous defensive performance. She refused to let a ball hit the floor that came into her area. Many setters will break too early, forgetting about playing defense. Daisy stood her ground on the defensive end and trusted her libero to make the set. It was better than having the ball hit the floor.

Daisy set a 6/2 with [player_tooltip player_id='395684' first='Jessica' last='Ding'], who also received consideration for the all tournament team. For her high school two years ago, Daisy set a 5/1. This past year she was slated to set with her younger sister [player_tooltip player_id='749757' first='Dakota' last='Pentorn'] but her name did not appear on the Arundel roster on maxpreps. Not really too sure what happened to her high school season last year but it is good to see her back performing in club.

While only two setters are listed [player_tooltip player_id='235748' first='Ema' last='Djordjevic'] set for her high school team that won a state championship. Also interesting to note is that libero [player_tooltip player_id='325602' first='Alexa' last='Smith'] played last year for Paramount. Because she belongs to the class of 2026 she was not playing against her old teammates, but there had to be some extra emotion to beat her old club in the finals.

Below is an all tournament team of some of the players who competed for teams who did not make the final four but stood out for their play. The window for watching these teams was smaller.

Although MOCO went winless in the tournament, Elizabeth still stood out for how effortlessly she set the ball. She set a 5/1 and ran the offense well, despite the lack of wins. It is unusual that the first position player I noticed when watching MOCO was their setter. Usually, it is the player who finishes a rally. Elizabeth jump set, back set, quick set, all while moving quickly around the court with every set coming out of her hands like silk.

For Georgetown Day she did not get a lot of opportunity to set. Two years ago they used DC Gatorade Player of the year Clara Yu to set a 5/1. Last year they brought in [player_tooltip player_id='292644' first='Caycee' last='Chhum'] to set a 5/1. Those are two excellent setters to overcome.

If given an opportunity to play for other high schools it would not surprise me to see Elizabeth stand out as their top setter. Clearly, an under the radar type of player worth a watch.

Sunshine Qualifier Results

No teams earned a bid in the Sunshine Qualifiers this past weekend but a number of clubs found themselves in the gold bracket on the last day. For most of the teams they could not get past that first round in the gold bracket. The higher you go in the tournament the tougher it is to win.

Metro 17 - They finished fifth in the 17 open, just two spots away from earning a bid. A second place finish in the gold medal pool knocked them out of bid contention. They had to win their pool to advance to a gold bracket, where three of the four teams competing earned a bid.

Virginia Juniors 17 - A ninth place finish in the USA Division. They lost in the first round of the gold bracket.

[program_tooltip program_id='498081' first='Loudoun' last='Elite'] Marissa 17 - Another ninth place finish, this one in the American Division. A first round loss in the gold bracket gave them their ninth place. Overall, they finished an impressive 6-2.

Virginia Juniors 16 - Another ninth place finish for a Virginia Juniors team, this one in the 16 Open. They were swept in both matches of a three team pool. A first place finish would have put them in a gold medal bracket where three of the four teams earned bids.

Metro 16 - While they finished 2-1 on the first day, it resulted in a three way tie for first place. Unfortunately, Metro came out as the third best 2-1 team. That placed them down into the second division, which eliminated them from any bid contention.

[program_tooltip program_id='498081' first='Loudoun' last='Elite'] Josi 16 - A ninth place finish after losing a three set match in the first round of the gold bracket.

Metro 15 - They finished ninth in the 15 Open. They went winless in a three team pool. If they had won their pool they would have played in a four team gold bracket where three of the teams earned bids.
