The administration did everything possible to make sure the Seton Saints had as much of a home court advantage as possible for Tuesday's big Girls Greater Catholic League showdown with first place on the line against the St. Ursula Bulldogs.

Nearly every seat in the gym had someone in it on Grade School Night and both student sections had their typical back and forth chants. However, the Saints used nice runs in all three sets to take the game 3-0 (25-17, 25-18, 25-13) to stay undefeated at 10-0 overall and 3-0 in the GGCL.

Seton displayed tremendous balance with every player that got in contributing. Both teams have experienced senior liberos with [player_tooltip player_id='403526' first='Grace' last='Jones'] for Seton and [player_tooltip player_id='204230' first='Emma' last='Frietch'] for St. Ursula. Both teams stayed in rhythm well enough to consistently take big swings. Seton simply executed better overall.

Seton's two setters in Kiersten Kemper and [player_tooltip player_id='582224' first='Penelope' last='Reisman'] did a great job spreading things out to the likes of [player_tooltip player_id='480837' first='Charley' last='Moeddel'], [player_tooltip player_id='227615' first='Callie' last='Combs'] and Natti Slusher. [player_tooltip player_id='227633' first='Breely' last='Miller'] helped the Saints control the net.

St. Ursula dropped to 5-2 and 1-1. The combination of sisters Lucy and [player_tooltip player_id='480820' first='Lola' last='Waleskowski'] gave the Bulldogs chances on a number of points. [player_tooltip player_id='480820' first='Lola' last='Waleskowski'], [player_tooltip player_id='227797' first='Gabby' last='Semona'], [player_tooltip player_id='835547' first='Maisie' last='Jones'] and even talented freshman [player_tooltip player_id='778092' first='Parker' last='Terrill'] had good swings. St. Ursula did rush some hits sending them high and wide at times, but as legendary former head coach Julie Perry told players walking out after the game, each day is a new day.

Miller (pictured) played a huge role helping the Saints control the net. She consistently read St. Ursula's hitters and timed her jumps well effecting plays and making things easier for the Seton defensive specialists. Miller had two big blocks in that third game to help Seton build a 6-1 lead. Miller also had some nice swings on short sets in the middle to give the Saints another option. She'll continue to have one-on-one opportunities at the net with other teammates commanding attention from opponents. Miller said every ball that comes a player's way is a new opportunity to put balls down so they try to take advantage of them, knowing where to hit balls and an opposing team's weaknesses.

Moeddel had an outstanding club season that has parlayed over to the high school season. She pounds balls and makes effective blocks from both the middle and the pins. St. Ursula especially could not stop her on the shoots in the Seton win. Moeddel mixed in tips to open spots on the floor. Moeddel said getting off the net fast and going fast in transition to beat blocks was a big key to control the net.

Combs stays as even keeled as any player on the court no matter what happens. Her athletic genes definitely help as the versatile Combs tries to do whatever it takes to help the Saints win. Her dad Mike is a former baseball player at Bowling Green State University. Combs dug up a number of hard hit balls and took great swipes on the outsides putting balls over and around blocks. She added in a nice jump serve. Combs said taking deep breaths before every single play and relying on experience are keys to success for the Saints.

Kemper reads defenses well and consistently finds the right teammates to set. Kemper executes a number of short and long sets including back sets for slides. She made solid first contacts all game only diving out of necessity. Kemper is also very enthusiastic on the court. Kemper said the setters take their roles very seriously figuring out who to set in tough situations, watching opposing middle hitters and figuring out if they need to reverse the flow or make simple sets. Kemper added the setters have faith it hot hitters even if they're facing double and triple blocks.

Waleskowski did everything she could to will the Bulldogs to victory. Walkeskowski has taken advantage of her height to set balls at tough angles for blockers to pick up. She's in sync with her older sister Lola and will continue to improve with the loaded St. Ursula hitters. Walkeskowski made plays out of system all game.
