We had to include a club preview in our rankings coverage. 'Tis the season.

The first couple of weeks of any year provide us with numerous angles to discuss. We're making wholesale changes to the site while also looking ahead to a flurry of early-season club competition on the horizon. As we wrap up our post-release coverage of the Nebraska 2028 rankings, we wanted to give a sneak peek at what's ahead for some of the class's best.

Keep tabs on these wicked teammate combos in our new Top 100. The 16s circuit will be wild.

Last year's success set a high bar for what this pin duo can accomplish in 2026.

We documented the divisional climb for 2025's VCNebraska 15 Elite group. That overachieving squad has stuck together for another club season, giving us another chance to see Cada and Cain terminate. Cada is a six-rotation force on the left side, and she demonstrated that all-around influence by putting up a whopping 437 kills for Bishop Neumann as a sophomore.

Cain, like Cada, was the go-to scorer for her high school squad last fall. She found every way possible to terminate for Lincoln Standing Bear, but her positional designation may shift again this spring. Cain has oscillated between the left and right pins while being equally effective in both roles. Her opposite prowess may take precedence with VCNebraska if trends hold from 2025.

Let's meet in the middle.

This year's top Nebraska Elite 16s group will have no shortage of physicality. Linnen was an incredibly imposing middle in last year's lineup and is fresh off a 300-kill campaign with the Omaha Roadrunners. She will continue to assert herself in front of the setter and wall up against opposing attackers.

Sonntag could be viewed as 16 Apex's "wildcard" athlete, as she can run the show in the middle or on the right side.

[player_tooltip player_id='572605' first='Aly' last='Cederburg'] and [player_tooltip player_id='774622' first='Gracie' last='Johnson'] -- South Central NE 16 Black

How about a couple more superstar middle blockers for your consideration?

South Central NE produced plenty of headlines in 2025, and last year's 15 Black squad was at the center of it all. These small-town "underdogs" climbed to the Show Me Qualifier podium and repeated that triumph on club volleyball's biggest stage. That GJNC momentum bodes well for these extraordinary middles.

Johnson is performing particularly well, leading her eighth-seeded Holdrege team to the Class C1 finals. Meanwhile, Cederburg burst into the Minden lineup and churned out over 200 kills for one of central Nebraska's top volleyball powerhouses. On to the next Cinderella story.

[player_tooltip player_id='737386' first='Adara' last='Fowlkes'] and [player_tooltip player_id='737391' first='Sara' last='Foley'] -- Premier Nebraska 16 Gold

These multi-position standouts are going to have a huge say in replicating last year's postseason breakthrough.

Last year's 15 Gold team saved its best for the very end, turning a 15 USA bid into a national championship. Fowlkes and Foley redefined their roles a few times during this journey of self-discovery and improvement. The high school season has only bolstered that narrative, as this pair is primarily utilized on the pins for their respective schools.

Premier Nebraska has the luxury of shaking things up again. Fowlkes was phenomenal as a middle blocker at GJNC, while Foley can switch between attacking and defensive niches. Finding the right combinations will be key to securing an Open bid.

[player_tooltip player_id='739707' first='Loryn' last='Piening'] and [player_tooltip player_id='555495' first='Shayla' last='Rautenberg'] -- [program_tooltip program_id='428717' first='Nebraska' last='ONE'] 17 Synergy

This one's obvious, right?

We don't often get to discuss a duo playing up together on the club side, and it's even rarer to have a combo with this much firepower. Piening and Rautenberg patrolled the middle for last year's Synergy squad, sparring with some of the best Open competition in America. Since then, all these two have done is notch state titles in their respective high school classes. Not bad.

An Open berth is the target in 2026, and it all starts along the net.

[player_tooltip player_id='575241' first='Savannah' last='Stengel'] and [player_tooltip player_id='779511' first='Calleigh' last='Chmelka'] - Nebraska Juniors 16 Black

We're wrapping up a pair of pins who should loom large with one of Nebraska Juniors' strongest entries.

Stengel and Chmelka are two Star City athletes with a ton of impact potential on the left pin. We were first introduced to Stengel's high-flying style when she appeared at a Nebraska Freshman Showcase, and that explosiveness has continued to peak with Nebraska Juniors. She's the perfect complement to Chmelka, who soared past 150 kills for Lincoln Northeast last fall. Both will score with tremendous volume for 16 Black.
